BODYARMOR State Games Gets Underway in Greensboro
Athletes are arriving in Greensboro for competition in 20 different sports
DURHAM, North Carolina, – North Carolina’s largest multi-sport, amateur athletic sporting event is underway in Greensboro, with competition already completed in six sports. The BODYARMOR State Games is hosting events in Greensboro and Guilford County as part of the month-long event. The events will be held throughout the month, until June 29.
More than 11,000 athletes will have a chance to “go for the gold” in world-class venues throughout the Greensboro area this month. Events that have already taken place include Track & Field, Disc Golf, Disc Dog, Mountain Bike, Youth Baseball and Inline Hockey. Country Park played host to a “pop up” Disc Golf tournament on June 7th, with a unique course designed specifically for this event. Track & Field was held at High Point Athletic Complex and featured over 700 athletes. Inline Hockey made its return to the games at the Greensboro Sportsplex on May 31st as well.
Many events are still to come throughout the month including the BODYARMOR State Games High School Baseball Showcase, which will be held at First National Bank Field, UNC Greensboro and Guilford College June 16-20. The High School Soccer Showcase (June 28-29) and the High School Softball Showcase (June 24-25) will be held at Guilford College. These “showcase” events are made up of regional teams from across North Carolina. Each player attends a tryout for their respective region, and if selected, he or she will head to Greensboro to represent their region in the event. Some of the best high school players in the state will be featured in these events this month.
One of the more unique BODYARMOR State Games sports, Dock Dogs, will be held in downtown Greensboro June 28-29. A pool will be constructed on Elm Street where the competition will be held in Big Air, Extreme Vertical, Speed Retrieve and Iron Dog. As part of the event, All Pets Considered will host the Splash Bash on Elm, a vibrant vendor market packed with energy, excitement and everything for pet lovers. The vendor market is open from 9am to 4pm on Saturday & Sunday. They will also host an adoption market on Saturday from 9am to 1pm, where you can meet local rescues and discover adoptable pets. Everyone is welcome to attend, admission is free.
The Greensboro Complex will host Arm Wrestling, Karate, Pickleball, Roller Derby, Taekwondo and Wrestling over the last two weekends in June. Other sports that will be held are High School Soccer Team Tournament, Youth & High School Basketball, Flag Football, Ice Hockey, Youth Softball and Beach Wrestling.
