Former Guilford County Schools High School Football Coach facing charges in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A man who taught at a private school in Charlotte was arrested after allegedly taking indecent liberties with a student.

According to an affidavit, Damon Corio was arrested on June 30. The 45-year-old was a coach for Providence Day School, a private school for K-12 students.

The student reported the two had been in contact since 2023 and Corio allegedly made sexual remarks toward her about her relationships with other people.

In May 2025, he allegedly gave her alcohol and then in June, Corio was accused of asking the student to show him her breasts and gave her the nickname of an adult sex worker.

Corio admitted to buying the alcohol, asking to see a picture of her chest, and communicating with her in an inappropriate way, according to the affidavit.

He was charged with indecent liberties with a student and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was issued a $10,000 bond and has since been released.

**********Damon Coiro, most recently coached at Providence Day School, and had been as assistant coach in Charlotte at Mallard Creek High School, where he was an assistant coach for head coach Kennedy Tinsley…Damon Coiro was the head football coach at Grimsley High School, an assistant coach at Southeast Guilford High School, and an assistant coach at Northern Guilford High School…All of these schools, Grimsley, Southeast Guilford, and Northern Guilford are in are part of the Guilford County Schools System…

Damon Coiro came to Greensboro, and played college football at Greensboro College…Do believe Damon Coiro is originally from New Jersey…..**********
