Final from over at Marion Kirby High School, where the Page Pirates knocked off the Northwest Guilford Vikings, 42-21…
Page fell hard at Charlotte Christian last week, but this week it was a different story…I kept waiting for Northwest Guilford to mount a large comeback in this game, but the “Comeback Kids” this week, are the Page Pirates…
Page never let Northwest get a handle on this game…Page was running all sorts of player combinations into the contest, and even though Zamari Williamson got the start at QB, his backup wasn’t playing like a backup…Anthony Johnson is a senior, but I had never seen him before on the football field at Page High School…He may have been out there on the turf field at Marion Kirby Stadium, but I had not seen this guy in action before tonight…He(Anthony Johnson) was the spark that got the Page Pirates smoking…
A look at the Touchdown Tally will show you what Johnson and the Page Pirates were up to…Page started Williamson at QB, but Johsnon was back there making it happen too, in a very large way for the Pirates…Jabari Johnson got the call at RB, but Jesse Poole was very productive back there too…Plus the man who impressed me the most on this Friday at RB was, Ja’mere Sesley…Sesley was hitting the running lanes real quick, whereas Poole was running more with power…Good Thunder and Lightning Combo at RB, in Sesley and Poole…Poole as ‘The Thunder’ and Sesley as ‘The Lightning’….
Crazy thing is both QB Anthony Johnson and RB Ja’mere Sesley are seniors, but we have heard little if anything from these two Pirates previously…But boy, they sure turned on the jets tonight at “The Kirb”/Marion Kirby Stadium…Looks like the Page Pirates are back, at least for this week in the 2025 season…For the most part Page ran a load of plays with Anthony Johnson at QB and they also ran a lot of plays with Zamari Williamson at QB…Page had tons of touches for all of the three running back they used in, Jabari Johnson, Jesse Poole, and Ja’mere Sesley…
The REMAX Revolution Player of the Game on offense went to Anthony Johnson, and the REMAX Revolution Player of the Game on Defense goes to Preston Burnette…Johnson with a TD pass and a TD run, while Burnette intercepted a pass, that looked to be a screen pass, and Burnette took it back for a TD…Both of those young men, a part of the Page Pirates move tonight, to be back in business…
Northwest Guilford got solid efforts from QB Ferrell Price(3 TD passes), RB Easton Dean, HB/TE Deegan Sowards, and DB/WR Austin Jackson…I bet you Easton Dean had well over 100 yards of offense when you combine his running and pass receiving yards…Dean was making moves to get open, and then after his catches, he was busting loose into the open field of play…Sowards is a big tall tight end/H-back and that young man, at 6’2/225, is one very big and good target for his quarterbacks…Austin Jackson was playing super defense as he always does, and he caught a TD pass on offense, for the second straight week…Price had his picks, but he still found his targets and was responsible for three(3) TD passes….My thinking was that Sowards and Rob Lange were solid defenders up front, on the NWG D-line…
Next week Page is home vs. Mount Tabor, and the Northwest Guilford Vikings stay on the road, and they go up to Spencer Dixon Road, to face the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…
Time for us to now get to the Gospel, and that would the “Touchdown Tally Tape” from our Friday Night Game, and here we go with our out-stretched arms and hands ready to give you those that got to end zone, or scored another way for the Nighthawks and the Vikings…
Let’s Crank It Up, and hit the Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists Scoring totals…
First score/TD of the game came when Anthony Johnson connected with Kasai Poindexter on a 40-yard Touchdown Pass…
Page 7, NWG 0
Page gets on the scoreboard again, when DL Preston Burnette intercepts a Northwest Guilford pass and he takes his in some good hits that makes each runner look for the excit ramp, like where the fans were standing and shouting in unison, along the Page Pirates home side…
Page 14, NWG 0
End of First Quarter:Page 14, NWG 0
With 3:12 left in the 3rd Quarter Page uses QB Williamson for a 1-yard TD run..The Page PAT kicks were all coming from Graham Hernandez, and Hernandez was kicking it well in this important 8-A vs. 7-A matchup, from “The Kirb”…
Page 21, NWG 0
Then at the 53.9 second mark of time remaining in the First Half, Northwest is stopped by the clock running fast as the First Half, is coming to a close….But NWG gets a 24-yard TD pass from Ferrell Price to Rakem Hammock, and then the Matt Holcomb PAT kick is good….And we are in some kind of “Crazy Battle”, with NWG playing the war of the wipeout, and the NWG Vikings looking for some exceptional treatment from “The Kirb”…
Page now leads Northwest Guilford, 21-7…
Halftime:Page 21, NWG 7
Page gets it going in the Second Half when QB Anthony Johnson takes it in for touchdown from 9 yards out…The Hernandez Kick was good, and Page now leads NWG, 28-7…Score Time was 5:46 left in the 3rd Quarter….
With 1:55 to play in the 3rd Quarter, Page marches on in on a Jesse Poole 3-yard TD carry, and then its Graham Hernandez connecting on the Extra Point Kick, and all phases are working with the Pirates still left here, and ready to play MORE..
Page 35, NWG 7
Northwest Guilford says we can get back in this game, and the Vikings start their accent…
With 6:40 left to play in the 4th Quarter NWG QB Ferrell Price connects with WR Austin Jackson for 16 yards, and Jackson heads to end zone and he scores a BIG TD late….Holcomb’s kick is good again for the Vikings…
Page 35, NWG 14….
Ferrell says if, “The Price is Right, Let’s Do It Again”……Ferrell Price with his 3rd TD of the night coming next, when the junior Signal Caller hooks up with Hunter Tilley for the 41-yard TD, and the Vikings add on the Holcomb PAT Kick, making the new score, Page 35, NWG 21…The Price to Tilley TD connection comes with just 34.3 seconds left to play in the Fourth Quarter/Ball Game…
Now time for the good old On-Sides Kick from the Northwest Guilford Vikings and Page is ready for it as Justin White grabs the short kick and returns it 47 yards for a Page Pirate Touchdown….Hernandez with the PAT Kick and Page has this wrapped up with 28.2 seconds remaining…
Page 42, NWG 21….
And that was our Final Score:Page Pirates 42, Northwest Guilford Vikings 21
Page now at (1-1) and Northwest Guilford is (1-1)…..
Next Week:Northwest Guilford(1-1) at Northern Guilford(1-1) and Page will be home again, versus next up the Spartans, from Mount Tabor High School(0-2)…Again our REMAX Revolution Players of the Game were both from Page HS, with Anthony Johnson on Offense and Preston Burnette on Defense…
Stats courtesy of Bryant Roche, from the News and Record…
Page QB Anthony Johnson 3-5 passing for 72 yards and 1 TD pass/0 INT…Johnson carried the ball 12 times for 60 yards and 1 TD…
Page RB Ja’mere Sesley with 10 carries for 97 yards…
Page RB Jesse Poole with 10 carries for 79 yards and 1 rushing TD…
NWG QB Ferrell Price goes 21-31 passing for 293 yards, with 3 TDs/2 INT.
On “The Finish”, the Grimsley Whirlies win without their senior QB Faizon Brandon, who was out with a hand injury…Grimsley turned to a freshman, Brody Lowe….Lowe not low, he is 6’0/195 and hails from Randolph County, where he was home schooled last year, and was in middle school before that…Lowe did not play in the Grimsley JV win over West Forsyth on Thursday, since he was getting to start vs. the West Forsyth varsity on Friday…The Lowe kid is a left-handed QB, and sure looks like he is the real deal…And just a Freshman…
The Dudley Panthers lost again, and I really don’t remember the last time Dudley started the season, at (0-2)…Northeast Guilford topped Eastern Alamance, and the Rams are at (2-0)…Northern Guilford got tripped up versus East Forsyth, while Southeast Guilford and Eastern Guilford were both winners and those two teams(2-0), SEG and EG will be ready to move on up in next week’s Top Ten Poll…High Point Andrews is at (2-0) to being 2025…We don’t have a truckload of Unbeaten Teams left, even though we are only two games into the new season….
Let’s get loaded up for the Saturday Morning Rewind coming your way in just a few hours…High School Football on GreensboroSports Radio, and at GreensboroSports.com…
If Page beat Mt. Tabor this week, its a strong chance they could finish the regular season 8-2 with their only losses to Charlotte Catholic and Grimsley.
That would be a great season for Page if that did happen, but one difference I have is Charlotte Christian over Page instead of Charlotte Catholic…Not a huge deal, but just for the record….Charlotte Christian may be better than Charlotte Catholic these, but I haven’t heard much out of Charlotte Catholic lately…
