High School Football Tonight with Round Four of the NCHSAA Playoffs
7-A WEST:
#5 WS Reagan(10-2) at #1 Grimsley(12-0) 7pm
at Jamieson Stadium….Mike Fanning will have a writeup on this game for us, here at GreensboroSports.com….
We have a very good idea who Grimsley will be keying on from the WS Reagan Raiders…The kid for the Raiders is sophomore John Evans Jr…This kid is interesting…He is 5’11/210 and this 10th grader has rushed for 2,074 yards on 266 carries and he has scored 26 Touchdowns…He runs for 172.8 yards per game, and goes for 7.8 yards per carry and he has 9 One Hurdred(100) Yard rushing games this season…
The kid can be stopped and Grimsley is the team to do it…But, wouldn’t you love to be this kid John Evans Jr., with the chance to run against that super-tough Grimsley Defense, just to see how good you could do…One heck of a challenge here when Reagan faces Grimsley…The Reagan QB Jacob Smith has gone 85-180 in his passing, for under 50% passing, at 47.2%…Smith with 1,133 passing yards, with just 9 TDs, but 6 INT…Smith stands at 6’2/215, and he has run for 167 yards and 4 TDs…Reagan as a team with 2,544 yards and 33 TDs on the ground…
Top WS Reagan receiver is Carson Bowman with 23 receptions for 419 yards and 2 TDs…You have to think Reagan and Coach Josh McGee will have to come out running the ball, with John Evans Jr. getting the load of the carries…Grimsley stacking the box and going for Evans Jr. seems to be a scene you might see repeated several times in this ballgame…
When Grimsley has the ball they can hit you quickly with QB Faizon Brandon going right to his primary target, WR Kaden Catoe…Then Brandon can also look to Hudson Cooper, Khyan Battle, DJ Howerton, or Patrick Carter…Ty Shumake has become become the top Grimsley RB, and senior Micah Williams has that special quality in his corner, with all of his playoff experience…Grimsley O-Line is like a bunch of high school Hall-of-Famers, and they have been a super key factor in the success of Grimsley moving the ball, and being able to explode or drive it down your throat on Offense…
Really want to see how many carries John Evans Jr. gets in this game for WS Reagan…Top Reagan tackler is Leo Housel-Rajacich, the Raiders middle linebacker, and he has 125 Total Tackles on the season…For Reagan, you have King Kalama, 6’2/260, and a defensive end/DT with 78 Tackles, 28 1/2 Tackles for a Loss, plus 32 QB Hurries, and 9 Sacks…
6-A WEST:
#3 Gastonia Ashbrook(12-0) at #2 Northern Guilford(11-1) 7pm
at Johnny Roscoe Stadium
Ashbrook looks like a balanced team, and their offense looks to be led by RB Savion Lindsay, and he has 840 yards and 9 TDs on the year…But, it doesn’t stop with him, as the Greenwave also feature RB Martino Smith with 649 yards and 7 TDs…Then there is their QB AJ McClain with 456 yards and 4 more TDs…Those three backs alone, prove to be a very strong threat coming out of the GA backfield…
QB McClain has thrown for 1,008 yards on 62-137 passing for a 45.3% passing rate…McClain with 17 TDs/3 INT….The Greenwave receiving yardage is really spread out going to Braylon Smith with 297 yards and 4 TDs…Next up is Tyler Morgan with 248 yards and 4 TDs…Cayden Montgomery-Ross rolls next with 195 yards and 4 TDs…Then it is their RB Savion Lindsay with 192 yards and 3 TDs…Plus you have Riley Hicks with 186 yards and the team-leading 5 TD receptions…Lots of TDs through the air, and an equally impressive number of TDs on the ground…Savion Lindsay and AJ McClain look to the workhorses…Top defensive man is MLB Caleb Gordon with 128 Tackles…Uziel Garcia is the kicker and punter for the Greenwave…
Got to get those LBs from Northern Guilford roaming from sideline-to-sideline with Chance Crews, Noah Smith, Hunter Crews, and Ronald Barclay all playing key roles in what the NG defense does…Up front, Charlie Griffin and Jude Kyser have to keep bringing it, while Bobby Blah, Sloan Littleton, Tajae Alston, and Lucas Hilliard all need to be on their toes at all times in the NG defensive secondary…
QB Jaxson Kemp needs to keep slinging that football up the field to his primary receivers CJ Morrison and Greyson Council, and those two kids can take it to the house in a hurry…Rimeeh Mack is a very reliable TE/H-back, plus the return of RB Amare Akers should do nothing but bloster that NG Nighthawk running game…
Christian Leach will be ready to get it moving again with his long legs and NG may even call on Cannon Herndon to get the legs a churning again this week….That O-LINE led by center Sam Bagley, plus Edddie Geddie, MJ Smith, TJ King, and Chase Bell, this group knows how to move that pile, and get their runners, running downhill….Kicker Kobe Guardado needs to be right at perfect again in this game…Lots to be accountable for, but the NG Nighthawks have their game plan and game faces ready…You can catch this game on
GreensboroSports Radio…Will also have a postgame writeup on the game, here at GreensboroSports.com…Listen on GreensboroSports Radio…
