Friday Night Finals with Coference Champions being crowned….
from Northern Guilford HS:\
Northern Guilford girls 53, Eastern Guilford 32
NG Girls 2026 TAAC 6-A/5-A Conference Tournament Champions
Game Summary:End of First Quarter:NG 8, EG 8…Halftime:NG 27, EG 19…End of Third Quarter:NG 41, EG 26…Final:NG 53, EG 32…
NG Scoring:Leena McField 28 points, Anaya Pearley 8, Georgia Lewis 8, Aliyah Settle 8, Allias Womack 2…
EG Scoring:Kayla Chrisp 9 points, Klara Zizkova 8, Mauri Jerman 6, Madison Calvin 2, Kylie Herbin 2, Harmony Yelverton 2…
Girls All-Tournament Team:Leena McField(NG), Georgia Lewis(NG), Anaya Pearley(NG), Klara Zizkova(EG)…Leena McField is your Tournament MVP/Most Valuable Player…
The NG-EG girls game was a rematch of the 2023 Guilford County Middle School Girls Championship Game…From EG’s place back then and in that game you had Kylie Herbin, Mauri German, Madison Calvin and others from the Wildcats…

NG in 2023 had Leena McField scoring 25 points in the first half, and those 25 markers represented her team’s entire first half total…NG topped EG in OT, back then, and that was three years ago, come next week…

On this Friday night, both teams started out a bit slow, but ole Mo might have been moving slow, and since Mo was looking for some place to go, he decided to hookup with the NG Nighthawks…Mo, as in momentum, got rolling NG’s way, and NG Coach Josh Evans, had his ladies locking it down and the ‘Hawks led by 15 point, at the end of the Third Quarter…

EG had Klara Zizkova leading them, but she was being forced out away from the bucket/basket, and with Zizkova making interior passes, and Northern stealing those passes, and turning them into baskets for the ‘Hawks, Eastern was caught between a rock and very hard place…Kyle Herbin was cold for EG, the ‘Cats looked to Kayla Chrisp to get them on the board, but the really big problem for Eastern is that they were chasing Northern all night long, and with the game Leena McField had and since I am writing this from scratch here late on Friday, and by early Saturday morning at 1:15am, I have to tell you folks, I look at the scoresheet, and behold, what do I see or not see…

I do not see a Three from Leena McField, and that is not all that common…Leena with Nine 2s, and boatload of Free Throws…We have her 10-11 from the Free Throw Line, and that is not too shabby…Lenna was driving and hitting pullups, and they all count the same when they go through the net, and McField’s totals do add up quickly…

Northern continues to get very ggod help from the ‘Hawks supporing cast, and on this night that would be Georgia Lewis, Anaya Pearley, and Aliyah Settle…And you have to tip your hat to Northern Guilford’s bulldog defender, Vanessa Franklin…She works hard and her results are in breaking her opponents down, and forcing them to go the long way, and in the end, it becomes the Wrong Way, as Vanessa has caused many players in the other jerseys to wilt and break under her defensive pressure…

Excellent Overall Defense from the Northern girls from the Third Quarter on…EG sort of became the prisoners, and Northern had taken another team captive, and the night was getting older, and it would soon be, LOOOOOOOOOOONG GONE….And NG got the win, and they move onto the playoffs once again, as the Champions from the TAAC 6-A/5-A Conference…

Northern Guilford boys 92, Northeast Guilford 79

NG Boys 2026 TAAC 6-A/5-A Conference Tournament Champions
Game Summaray:End of First Quarter:NG 22, EG 12…Halftime:NG 40, EG 19…End of the Third Quarter:NG 66, EG 47…Final:NG 92, EG 79….
NG Scoring:Caleb Baptist 31 points, Christian Davis 16, Chance Crews 12, Will Thomas 10, Remy Mack 10, Aiden Crews 8, Charlie Hild 4, Greyson Council 1…
NEG Scoring:Brennan Foster 20 points, Savion Brooks 19, Jamari Shepherd 16, Jayden Ford 7, Nate Newman 7, Zay Mixon 6…
Boys All-Tournament Team:Caleb Baptist(NG), Christian Davis(NG), Will Thomas(NG), and not sure, but we are thinking it was Savion Brooks(EG), and Brennan Foster(EG)…MVP/Most Valuable Player:Caleb Baptist(NG)

Very good postgame talk time with Christian Davis, Caleb Baptist, and Will Thomas from NG…And as for the game, Northeast Guilford came out like a house on fire, and the Rams were rolling early, but all of the sudden, the Northern Guilford Nighthawks started getting stops…

And once NG found a way to shutdown NEG, this game was going all the way to the NG Nighthawks…NEG got very good early efforts from Zay Nixon and Jayden Ford…But if you saw it happening, you might just be in agreement with me…NG started getting and hitting 3s, with the ‘Hawks Will Thomas nailing Two 3s, Caleb Baptist also connected for Two 3s, and NG even got a long-range bomb from Aiden Crews…

When NG got going, they could not be stopped…Caleb Baptist was hot as a pistol, and he had 15 first half points for the Nighthawks…Christian Davis finished the contest with 10 made Free Throws for Northern…Northern drove to the basket hard, and they were there at the rim, and finishing…

Chance Crews was doing it, Remy Mack was holding down the post and hit double-digits in scoring…When NG attacked the basket, they were successful…

Will Thomas ended up with Three 3s for the night, while Caleb Baptist added Three more 3s for the home team…A Total Team Effort and relentless defense allowed NG to get the win on this night…

For Eastern Guilford it was like they were working split shifts…Mixon and Ford got them going early, but Zay Mixon scored five points in half number one, and then only added one more point to his total for the game…Jayden Ford scored seven big points in the opening half, and then never scored again…This was crazy, but it went even deeper than that…

NEG’s top scorer Savion Brooks was in the game in the first half, but it was like he was missing/AWOL…He/Brooks did not score a single first half point…But he was not alone…Jamari Shepherd didn’t score for NEG in the first half either…Brennan Foster only had three first points for Northeast, but he finished the contest with 20 points…Brooks zero in the first half and he closed it(the game) with 19 points, and Shepherd was not showing in Half One, but by the time he was done, Shepherd ended up with 16 points…

The three key NEG Rams were not involved hardly at all on the First Shift, but by the second, they had shifted things into gear, and they were really rolling, but by the time they got clicking, the clock was ticking, and this Championship was going to the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…

Good work in the post on Friday from NG’s Remy Mack and Greyson Council…They forced NEG to change some of their shots, and Mack and Council were able to keep the ball alive around the square on the offensive end, and on the defensive end, they were limiting the NEG Rams to tough shots…

It has pretty much all been said and done, and in the end Northern Guilford won, and the NEG Rams did not get the chance to bring back, “The Ric Flair Chant”, which goes, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Those three All-Tournament members from Northern Guilford were very fitting…Will Thomas, Caleb Baptist, and Christian Davis left it all out there on the court, and next week when the playoffs start, they will hope to pick it back up, where they left off tonight/Friday night….
