  1. Did not see them but will get them up here….Did get SEG girls listed and they got a BYE…I was not looking for SEG boys to make the field…But they did, so they are being added…On our first type up we missed the Smith girls, but went back and got them added in…Started thinking about possible Doubleheaders, and it made me think to look up the Smith girls and got them in here…

You have to admit, it is a bit of a surprise to see so many teams in here with weak records, but it is what it is….SEG boys, Ragsdale boys, and Southern Guilford boys, was surprised to see them in here, and some of the girls teams too….They should all have gotten in, but there are 8, count them, 8 Byes for the 6-A girls bracket…

More power to all of the Guilford County teams, and good luck to all of those that go/play in Round One on Tuesday…

  2. Five Guilford County girls teams got Byes in the 6-A Bracket…To me I think everybody should be playing in Round One, in all of the brackets…Just me, and my two cents….

  3. Went back and checked on the 6-A West, and the SEG boys were not there….The SEG girls are in the West…I made a very honest mistake..If the SEG girls are in the West, why would you look for the SEG boys in the East??? Makes no sense at all to me that you have one school team in one Region, and the other team from the same school, in a different Region…I kept looking and thought maybe I was losing my mind, but then I took one more look, and there were the SEG boys in the East of all places…Never would have been looking for that, since the SEG girls are in the West…

Some of this stuff being done with these seedings makes no sense to me…..The Ragsdale girls split with Dudley during the regular season, and then Ragsdale just beat Dudley last week in the Conference Tournament…No dis on Dudley, but still does not make sense to me(Dudley ends up with the higher seed)….They go by an RPI and strength of schedule to seed the teams, and why not just stick to the Overall Records, then Conference Records, then head-to-head meetings…This is not college, but I guess since the high schools now have the transfer portal, so we must do the high school tournament setup like the colleges do…

Probably a lot more we could say about the system, but it might be better to step away now, and add MORE posts to the site for tonight….Deal……One more rant, and then we run….And with the addition of 4 Classifications, you have to find ways to get all of the brackets filled…8 Classifications overall, and tons of teams with losing records in the playoffs….Again, it is just me, but I have always felt that teams with losing records should not be in the playoffs…Congrats that more got in, but you are rewarding teams for finishing the season with a losing record??? Back in the day, a losing record meant your season was over, and you went back to work….

Again, just me floating some opinions, and good for two cents at your local Tax Department….

    Now, Andy out…

  4. Andy, I agree about the Dudley-Ragsdale Seeding and I normally have pulled for Dudley the last 30 yrs. But looking at the Bracket of both, I think Dudley may have the tougher draw if they both get past the 1st round bye. Dudley may have to get past Charlotte Catholic, Morganton Freedom or #3 Asheville A.C. Reynolds to just make it to the Sectional Championship. While Ragsdale has only Wautaga or Alexander Central to deal with. I don’t take any team for granted, especially any given night. But if I was a beating man, I would love to be in Ragsdale spot, at least they wouldn’t have to face Dudley or the teams I mention in Dudley’s Sectional until the Regionals on a Neutral Court.

  5. The new 8a is way too diluted. There is no way some of these teams should be making the playoffs. Also, over 3/4s of all the HS teams make the playoffs now. It’s no longer playoffs, it’s just a state wide tournament.

  6. Good to see the early returns, where some folks are in agreement with me….But I am sure some folks will take the higher ground….Others will take the low road, and which way do you go??? Charlie Haas always said, “The Same Thing He Said”…And that was in reference to what Shelton Benjamin had just said…

Interesting news on the NCISAA/Independent School State Basketball Tournament set for this week…Learned from the News and Record’s main man(Bryant Roche) on the high school front that the NCISAA will be playing their States in Greensboro this week, at the Greensboro Coliseum’s Novant Field House…Greensboro Day Boys and Caldwell Academy boys looking to be here…Also watching for the Grace Christian girls to be here…Grace Christian with Lola Vanore(Page HS) and Cooper Cox(Wesleyan Christian Academy) on the girls squad…

The Middle Schools will have Conference Tournaments this week…No County Championships this year…Just Conference Semis on Monday, and the Conference Championship Games on Tuesday…..See here later for MORE….

  7. They need to just go back to 4 classification, having 8 has high school sports here watered down smh.

  8. I agree about the Playoffs being watered down, seeing 8-17, 6-18, 6-15, 6-17 and 9-15 Teams make the Playoffs is crazy to me.

  9. From Saturday, it was Greensboro Day School boys 68, Grace Christian 45 and Caldwell Academy boys 97, Trinity Christian 89…

One First Round East Playoff game has (7-16) Rockingham County boys traveling to play at South Brunswick…Rockingham County is in the Eastern part of the state???

I may be totally off base and flat-out dead wrong, but many times it looks like the organizers are just ‘filling out the brackets’….

**********One of the longest treks/trips I ever remember making/taking was back around 2001 when I went to Greenville, N.C. to cover/broadcast the Dudley boys on Tuesday night, with the late game/9pm at the Minges Coliseum/East Carolina University, and then driving back and heading to Hickory on Wednesday night to broacast the Southeast Guilford girls vs. Richmond County, and the game(early game 6pm) was at Hickory HS…The state had Richmond County in the West that year…**********

  10. If you paid attention to fall sports playoffs, lots of sub .500 teams from across the state made it in football, soccer and volleyball.

I think 8 classifications was the wrong choice. Maybe 6 would work?

All I know is the individual wrestling state championships were a mess on Friday with competitions going really late (I’m talking 11pm-midnight).

NCHSAA has some work to do

  11. There were some (1-9) teams that got in the football playoffs back in the Fall, and to me that is just crazy…On the wrestling, I can remember a day when there was only One Classification and that was it…They did the State Tournament on a Friday and Saturday at WS Parkland High School…That was 50 years ago mind you, but in some ways, it seems like only yesterday…
