Glenn at Northern Guilford on Saturday at 6pm, in Round Three of the NCHSAA Playoffs…
Leena McField, from Northern Guilford was honored before the girls game tonight, as the Top Scorer in Guilford County Girls Basketball History…Her parents and the mayor, Marikay Abuzuaiter were there to help honor Leena McField, and WFMY TV was there, Bryant Roche from the News and Record, along with N&R photographer Woody Marshall were all there…Leena broke the record that was held by Elissa Cunane, also a Northern Guilford Nighthawk girls basketball player back in her day…MORE on NG-Statesville girls game coming, and Congrats to Leena McField….
NG girls-Statesville Game Summary:
End of First Quarter:NG 17, Statesville 12…Halftime:NG 40, Statesville 20…End of Third Quarter:NG 50, Statesville 35…Final:NG 72, Statesville 51…Just a five-point game at the end of the First Quarter, then a twenty-point lead for NG at the half, while Statesville cut the deficit to 15 at the end of three periods, before NG hit a growth spurt, and the Nighthawks ran off with a 21-point victory…Statesville had two girls that could play, and start for just about any team in Guilford County…The Greyhounds’ Ava Waugh, and Aubrey Graham were that good…Georgia Lewis hit some real nice/sweet shots for NG…Five-footers from both sides of the lane, and she was dead on…Aliyah Settle must have had at least 6 clean blocked shots in this ballgame…She was not fouling, but blocking the shots cleanly…Northern Guilford faces a real tough Kernersville Glenn Bobcats team on Saturday afternoon, at Northern…Glenn wiped out the Southeast Guilford Falcons on Thursday, 60-26…Looks like these Glenn Bobcats are for real….
NG Scoring on Thursday:Leena McField 22 points, Georgia Lewis 17, Aliyah Settle 16, Anaya Pearley 7, Allias Womack 6, Ava Foushee 2, Sarah Moore 2…

Western Guilford boys 54, Northern Guilford 50
WG at Smith on Saturday in Round Three of the NCHSAA Playoffs…
MORE on these games coming your way…Game was tied at 50-50 with just over a minute to play and Seth Harris drove down the right baseline and hit a shot for two, to put WG up 52-50, and NG turned the ball over in the backcourt, and WG got the ball back, and WG’s Hunter Boykin was fouled, and hit both Free Throws, and Western goes up 54-50, and NG got off a long shot, but down four with 6.7 second left, Northern’s time just ran out, and Western Guilford moves on to play the Smith Golden Eagles on Saturday for the fourth time this season, and it will the third time WG has met Smith, at Smith….
Game Summary on WG at NG:
End of the First Quarter:NG 12, WG 11…Halftime:NG 24, WG 18…End of Third Quarter:WG 37, NG 36…Final:WG 54, NG 50…
WG Scoring:Seth Harris 30 points, Jayce Williams 15, Hunter Boykin 4, Javier Hernandez 3, Caleb Moore 2…
NG Scoring:Chance Crews 20 points, Aiden Crews 12, Caleb Baptist 5, Christian Davis 4, Remy Mack 4, Will Thomas 3, Charlie Hild 2…
The Nighthawks’ Will Thomas hit a clutch three late in the game to tie the game, but for everything Northern tried to do, Western had an answer(I am thinking it was NG’s Caleb Baptist that three late in the contest to tie it all up at 50-50)…

Western forced Northern to work extremely hard on defense, and offense Western did not get in a hurry, and with the Hornets defense, and their slow-down offfense, WG was able make this a low-scoring game…

Northern’s Caleb Baptist, Christian Davis, and Will Thomas never got going vs. Western like they did last Friday night at home in the Conference Tournament Championship Game, versus Northeast Guilford…

Western Guilford was a much tougher foe, that what Northern saw in Northeast last Friday….

Lots of lead changes early in this battle, and Western knew if they slowed down the pace, and the Hornets could limit the Northern possessions, then Western could be your Winner, and it worked…Slow it down, keep the overall score low, that will be your formula for success…

Close game, and look at all the close games WG has been in this year, and for that matter all the Overtime games Western has played…OT WG vs. SWG, OT WG vs. Grimsley, OT WG vs. Page, and there have been more…WG just hangs around and gains ground…And the Western program is on the way up, and the WG Hornets are on the way over to Ben L. Smith High School, and they will be playing in the Bob McAdoo Gym again, on Saturday…Here go again….

  1. Awesome job by the Panthers on the boys side and Grimsley on the girls side!! I hope they both go far in the playoffs. Dudley has really turned it on at the end of the season.

  2. I guess western guilford don’t get a shout for a break out season? So I will do the honors of congratulating them on a great season and they play on. 3rd round on a big accomplishment . Those are kids are playing well. Great coaching and the kids are playing well. Look out next year ,but still have unfinished business against a team that very talented. Lets go Hornets.

  3. from the Game Story, and I thought we had a pretty good writeup on WG at NG…
Western Guilford moves on to play the Smith Golden Eagles on Saturday for the fourth time this season, and it will the third time WG has met Smith, at Smith….

We also had this on the update list…#9 Western Guilford at #1 Smith on Saturday @4pm
