MORE on the North Lincoln girls season story, from back earlier in this season….From February 18:
from HSOT…..
Lincoln County Schools has confirmed that an ineligible player was the reason behind the recent mass forfeiture of wins.

Here is the statement from LCS:

“Lincoln County Schools has confirmed that a North Lincoln High School girls’ basketball student-athlete was determined to be ineligible under NCHSAA guidelines. As a result, 17 previously played games have been officially forfeited in accordance with state athletic regulations.

While this is a disappointing outcome, we respect the rules that govern interscholastic athletics and accept the decision.

Despite the forfeitures, the team has qualified for the state playoffs and will continue to compete with determination and pride.”

North Lincoln won its Thursday night game against Bandys and is now comfortably in position to qualify for the 5A playoffs with an RPI of 0.393900.

With days left until the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoff basketball brackets come out, North Lincoln’s girls went from being one of the favorites to win the 5A state title to on the outside looking in.

The Knights, who entered this week with an 18-4 overall record, now show a record of 2-21.
