The N.C. High School Athletic Association will have to find a new leader in 2026.
Commissioner Que Tucker has announced her retirement, effective October 1. Tucker notified the NCHSAA’s member schools on Monday morning.
Tucker has been the commissioner since December of 2015 and was interim commissioner for five months prior to that, following the departure of Davis Whitfield.
The leader joined the NCHSAA staff in 1991 after having been an assistant coach with the N.C. State women’s basketball team under coach Kay Yow.
“Since I joined the NCHSAA in 1991, it has been the privilege of a lifetime to work for and help guide an organization rooted in education, sportsmanship, and opportunity,” Commissioner Tucker said. “Together, we have navigated moments of growth, challenge, and change—always with a shared commitment to doing what is right and what is best for students across our state.”
No fan of Que Tucker, but it’s only going to get worse. Now that Berger King is apparently out after losing a primary, he’ll probably have the legislature appoint him to be king of the NCHSAA. He and his cronies (who take significant campaign funds from charter school companies) have already f’ed it up pretty well since the legislature took it over. Maybe he can finish the job.
Wish they would bring back Rick Strunk. He would be the best man for that job. Not political, just fair and square.
The NCHSAA has a lot of money stored up down there in Chapel Hill. Wish they would send some our way. REAL Money.
