Furman Takes 3-0 Win Over UNCG Softball

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team was unable to get past The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Furman on Saturday afternoon, 3-0, at UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans fall to 27-14 overall and 8-1 in the SoCon, while the Paladins improve to 6-30 overall and 1-8 in the conference.

Furman got the ball rolling in the top of the first, scoring two runs on two hits and an error. With runners on second and third, Kristyn Embler singled and advanced to second on an error, causing two runners to score, 2-0.
The Paladins kept the Spartans scoreless all game, but UNCG was able to total seven hits, where three of them came from Macy Michael, out of her four at bats.

In the top of the sixth, Furman added one more insurance run. Following a one-out double by Christina McCoy, Ansley Chiang moved her over on a sacrifice bunt.
The Paladins’ Logan Gunter walked to put runners on the corners and Kate Stoltzfus drove in McCoy from third for a 3-0 advantage.

UNCG threatened in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second by way of singles, but Furman’s Kristyn Embler was able to hold on for the 3-0 win.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will host in-state non-conference foe Charlotte for a single game on Wednesday, April 8, at UNCG Softball Stadium with a first pitch slated for 5:00 p.m. Fans can play softball bingo during the game, and kids can run the bases and there will be postgame autographs following the conclusion of the game.
