Greensboro Grasshoppers in a true Home Opener Night battle with the Asheville Tourists, and the Hopper grab the 1-0 win, highlighted by the solo Home Run to center field from Axiel Plaz, and the LOOOOOOOOOG GONE homer was the only run scored by either team on the night…

For the game, the two teams combined for just six hits total, three from the hometown Hoppers, and then three from the Tourists…

On our Fred Anderson Toyota Rewind, the Grasshoppers saw the win go to Owen Kellington he worked two scoreless innings to earn the victory…Kellington gave up 0 runs, on 1 hit, with 1 BB and 1 K…The Hold went to Greensboro’s Alexis Torres, while Junior Flores earned the Save…Flores walked one Asheville batter and struck out one, to close out the ninth inning…Carlson Reed got the start for the Hoppers, and Reed did succeed, going four innings, giving up 0 Runs, on Two Hits, with 1 BB, and he had 7 BIG Strikeouts…

The Hopper hits came from Plaz who had two of the three Greensboro base knocks, with Plaz and his Game-Winning Home Run in the bottom of the seventh inning, plus Plaz had the Hops first hit of the night, with his Double in the fourth…The other Hopper hit came off of the bat of Brian Sanchez, who singled in the fifth inning..

Asheville’s hits were a Double by Jason Schiavone, a Double from Drew Brutcher, and there was a single by Jaden Powell…Schiavone went 1-2, with that Double and he had two walks…Axiel Plaz was the counter by the Grasshoppers with his 2-3 night, featuring his Home Run, his Double, and he goes 2-3, with the Game-Winning hit, run, and RBI…

Grasshoppers Edge Tourists, 1-0, on Opening Day

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Grasshoppers secured a 1-0 victory over the Asheville Tourists on Opening Day, Tuesday, April 7. With the win, Greensboro improved to 4-0 on the season, while Asheville dropped to 1-3. Both teams recorded three hits, with the Grasshoppers committing the game’s only error.

Catcher Axiel Plaz led Greensboro offensively, going 2-for-3 with a home run, triple, one RBI, and one run scored. Outfielder Brian Sanchez accounted for the Grasshoppers’ other hit.

Asheville’s hits came from outfielder Caden Powell, catcher Jason Schiavone, and infielder Drew Brutcher.

Right-handed pitcher Carlson Reed got the start for Greensboro, striking out seven while allowing two hits and one walk over four innings. Owen Kellington earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the season, while Alexis Torres recorded his first hold and Junior Flores secured his first save.

For Asheville, right-hander Luis Rodriguez struck out five and allowed one hit across four innings. Anthony Cruz was charged with the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season.
