Mr. William “Wray” Hodgin, 79, resident of Jamestown, died June 7, 2026 at Cone Health Medical Center in High Point.
He was born June 3, 1947 in Forsyth County, a son to William W. and Lola Smith Hodgin. He grew up in High Point. He was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and served in the US Army. As a long-time member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, he was dedicated to the Wesley 100. Despite facing many medical challenges in the past 15 years, Wray tried to always participate in the projects of the Wesley 100 and in his small group meetings. Wray also was an active member of the Jamestown Civitans
He never met a stranger, only friends whose stories he had yet to learn. With a brilliant mind, a generous spirit and a knack for finding humor in everyday life, he filled every room with laughter and left behind a community made richer by having known him. His collection of baseball caps and books is unparalleled. His career was in accounting but his passion was officiating college sports for the NCAA/ACC. He had a special love for college baseball. (Go Heels in the CWS!)
(He umpired for the Greensboro Colt Baseball League, and also back in the day, for Bob Doss’s Palomino Baseball Leage.)
He is survived by his wife, Lynette. They were married November 14, 1981 and experienced 44 years of adventures.
Also surviving is a daughter Laura Elizabeth “Beth” Baaden and husband Michael grandchildren Molly, Maddi, and Maci of Harrisburg, NC, and many first cousins who took the place of siblings as they grew up together. He leaves behind his beloved dog “Maggie”
