Oklahoma City Thunder trade Aaron Wiggins(Grimsley HS/Wesleyan Christian Academy) to the Atlanta Hawks: Forest Valley Outdoor Basketball Court News

I talked to Aaron Wiggins’ dad Tim Wiggins, for about an hour last Sunday, and he told me that a trade was a possibility for his son Aaron Wiggins, and that Aaron could end up leaving the OKC Thunder…

Aaron Wiggins, the former Grimsley Whirlie, and the former Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojan, was highly thought of by the top brass with the Thunder, but they had other players that were making more money, and the other players were part of a higher pecking order established by the Thunder…And if the Thunder were paying those other players more money, they had to play those players more than Aaron Wiggins, and Aaron and his agent sure felt like Aaron should be gettng more chances to improve his overall NBA status…

If you are not playing, and Aaron did not see much playing time at all in the playoffs, and you can’t show what you can really do, if you are not getting the playing time…Aaron had an injury this season, and that slowed him down some, but he was pretty much ready to go in the playoffs, but the Thunder did not give him his minutes, and they were giving him the minutes, when the OKC Thunder won the NBA Championship in 2025…

Aaron is spending his time now working out with his trainer, down in Miami, Florida, and they train every day…Aaron Wiggins took off about two weeks, after the Thunder’s playoff run for 2026 was over…Now Aaron is working with his trainer and his nutritionist every day, working to get better, as a player…

In his end-of-the-season exit interviews, the media asked Aaron what he needed to do, to get better…Aaron said, “PLAY”….Got to be playing on a regular basis if you hope to improve…Very simple answer, and reasoning…PLAY…Need to play, each and every day…And that is what he is doing now…Training and working on his game…

Late July/Early August, Aaron Wiggins will be back in the Triad for his Baskeball Camp, at the Wesleyan Christian Academy…He will also have a golf tournament this year…Aaron also has Three Under Armour Travel Youth Basketball Teams, and his teams will be playing in the Nationals down in Georgia later on, this Summer…Three A-WIG Teams, and that are working hard…

And that is all we have for you from the local level, on the Aaron Wiggins situation…He is an Alumnus of the Forest Valley Outdoor Basketball Court, here in Greensboro, and we met with Aaron for an interview there, last Summer…I was at the court this Sunday, and got my shots in, but also made the unwanted trip to the creek…You have to hit The Creek, when the basketball rolls down the hill, and into the creek…Happens maybe once every couple of years, and My Day was Today/Sunday June 21…You hang on to to limbs and roots, as climb down the hill to the creekbed, and then you get to pull yourself back up the steep incline hill…Quite a challenge, and one heck of a workout right there…

Now more for you, on Aaron Wiggins, heading to the Atlanta Hawks…

The Oklahoma City Thunder is finalizing a trade to send Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks. The Thunder will receive two second-round picks in return, according to ESPN.

“In exchange for Wiggins, the Thunder will receive Atlanta’s 2030 pick and the least favorable pick of the Hawks/Lakers in 2032,” according to the report.

The 27-year-old Thunder guard averaged 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists during the 2025-26 season.

Wiggins was drafted by the Thunder in the second round in 2021.

from Shams Charania
Aaron Wiggins — drafted with the No. 55 pick in the 2021 Draft — developed into a championship role player in Oklahoma City’s culture and now moves to an up-and-coming Hawks team.

Oklahoma City had a projected tax penalty of $213 million — the trade reduces that number to $152 million. The deal also opens up a roster spot for the Thunder ahead of two top-18 picks in the Draft.

    from YardBarker.com:
Hawks land Thunder champion in trade
The Atlanta Hawks have plucked away an experienced veteran from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

News broke on Sunday that the Thunder were trading guard Aaron Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the 2025 NBA champions are set to receive two second-round picks in return — the Hawks’ own 2030 pick and the least favorable of the Hawks and Lakers’ picks in 2032.

The deal is essentially a salary dump for the Thunder, who entered the offseason with an eye-popping $213 million luxury tax bill waiting for them should they have stood pat. Per salary cap maestro Bobby Marks, OKC’s tax figure will drop to $152 million once the deal is made official.

Wiggins is on a team-friendly deal that will pay him around $17.5 million guaranteed over the next two seasons, with an $8.35 million team option for the 2028-29 campaign.

The 6’5? swingman played a key role off the bench for the Thunder in each of the last two seasons. During OKC’s championship year in 2024-25, Wiggins averaged 12.0 points and 3.9 rebounds on 48.8 percent shooting from the field and 38.3 percent from beyond the arc while playing nearly 23 minutes per game.

While his minutes remained last season, Wiggins’ performance took a slight hit. He averaged 9.4 points on a 43.1 percent shooting clip and a mediocre 35.6 percent from deep. With the emergence of Ajay Mitchell and the trade for Jared McCain this season, Wiggins became expendable for OKC.

Hawks agree to acquire Aaron Wiggins from Thunder
Atlanta sends 2030 second-round pick, as well as the least favorable of the Hawks’ and the Lakers’ seconds in 2032.
    By Lauren Williams

The Hawks’ predraft work continued Sunday night. The team agreed to acquire wing Aaron Wiggins from the Thunder in exchange for two second-round picks, according to a person familiar with the situation.

    ESPN first reported the deal.

The Hawks sent their 2030 second-round pick, as well as the least favorable of the Hawks’ and the Lakers’ seconds in 2032.

In Wiggins, the Hawks add another solid defender on the wing.

Over 339 games with the Thunder, Wiggins averaged 8.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 38% from deep.

The Hawks will have to wait a couple of weeks before the deal becomes official. The trade likely won’t become official until July 6, when the NBA moratorium ends on transactions.
