GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the Hub City Spartanburgers, 11-4, on Thursday, August 27. With the win, Greensboro improved to 34-23 in the second half of the season, while Hub City fell to 22-35. The Grasshoppers outhit the Spartanburgers, 10-8, despite committing three errors.
Leading the Grasshoppers at the plate was infielder Jared Jones, who went 3-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Infielder Dylan Palmer followed with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double, one RBI, and two runs scored. Tony Blanco Jr. recorded two hits, while Wyatt Sanford, Edward Florentino, and Jhonny Severino each added a hit.
Outfielder Paxton Kling led the Spartanburgers offensively, going 2-for-3. Hub City also received hits from Gleider Figuereo, Maxton Martin, Quincy Scott, Antonis Macias, Esteban Mejia, and Chandler Pollard.
Left-handed pitcher Reinold Navarro got the start on the mound for Greensboro. He recorded seven strikeouts while allowing three hits, four runs (three earned), and four walks over 3.1 innings. Right-handed pitcher Cesar Aquino earned the win for the Grasshoppers, improving to 2-0 on the season. Left-handed pitcher Victor Cabreja recorded his fourth hold of the season.
Right-handed pitcher Jormy Nivar started for Hub City and struck out one batter while allowing six hits, five earned runs, and two walks over 2.2 innings. Nivar was charged with the loss, dropping to 0-1 on the season.
