Mendenhall home against Penn Griffin
Jackson Middle only had 15 players today. With some high schools not having enough players to field a JV team this season it makes you wonder if football is on the decline…
Nope . Not at Page, Grimsley, Dudley, Northern, Northwest, or Eastern Guilford. Kids are at the other schools but the video games are more important right now. Some play Lacrosse or soccer. And some just don’t want to play.
And some of those schools don’t have enough kids because the ones who live in their attendance zones are playing for somebody else … and some aren’t playing for their school because their school recruited over them and brought in some quarterback from Asheboro.
Congratulations to my guy at Mendenhall. Thanks Andy for the highlights. Mendenhall should be thankful for the Coaches they have. All their coaches know their sport and they teach it. Success at the middle level goes a long ways when you have good coaches that know their sport , it helps those high school coaches that get these kids tremendously. And the AD that hires them at the middle school level instead of just hiring ahhhh well just somebody .
Welborn 6, Northeast 8
Reality Czech you right but there is a but in there. Its all over guilford county and forsyth county. But the successful coaches usually get the better kids. Not knocking coaches but some are not very good at coaching. Parents see that and the kids see it. So some are fighting a battle should they stay or should they go and it seems they’re leaving.
Forgot one other school. Northeast. Watch out.
Middle school football been on a decline for GCS. Most those guys are playing travel football and not playing for their the schools cause the coaching sucks. They just be putting teachers in those position to get the extra play but do not really care about the sport.
Jamestown won 20 to 14 over Lincoln
A lot of kids left their schools to go play for Guilford Prep academy
I also witnessed something else that was very disappointing IMO. Before the Jackson vs Southeast game they had been announcing that they needed three people to work the chains. Eventually two men stepped up, but they couldn’t start without a third. They made another announcement. Out of ALL of the men in the stands no one stood up to take the third spot. At the last possible moment a woman went down to join the crew. Some will say “equal opportunity” or “a woman can do it so why not”. I don’t know where we are in society, but it was pretty embarrassing that no man in the crowd volunteered for what can be a position that puts the person in contact with the action. Why didn’t I volunteer? I happened to see there was going to be a game and stopped by out if the blue. I knew I wouldn’t stay for the whole game, and maybe not even to half time. Otherwise I probably would have volunteered. Either way, disappointing IMO.
Northern — 34
Allen Jay Prep — 0

Yeah parent involvement is down bad. Nothing wrong with a woman holding the chaining but its crazy they had to keep make an announcement just to get some help.
Whoever runs the clock for the middle school game has to do better. When Eastern had the ball the clock would stop, the clock stayed running when Western had the ball. Good ol home cooking
Allen’s Middle needs help bad
