Can we dive into the Page-SG score? How is it possible to give up 81 when the clock starts running when one team is up by 42?
I was thinking running clock was high school, 35 points, and middle school, 25 points….81 is a bunch of points…
The NCHSAA changed the rule from 42 to 35 starting last season (2025/26).
And to answer the question. The rule doesn’t take effect until the 2nd half. So a team can score 50, 60, 70 points, however many, without the running clock, in the 1st half.
I think Page scored near 50 in the 1st quarter alone, and was near 70 at halftime. The back ups scored a couple more tuddies in the 2nd half while the clock was running. You can’t tell those kids to not play hard, after they practiced hard all week.
“The mercy rule in NCHSAA high school football triggers a continuous running clock when a team achieves a lead of 35 points or more at halftime or at any point during the second half. The running clock only stops for standard game interruptions such as charged team timeouts, player injuries, scores, and try-for-point (point-after) attempts.”
Page will give Grimsley a good run…
70 points in the First Half, that is a bundle…
Page had 5 fumble returns for touchdowns. Preston Burnette had 2 of them. Poindexter had a receiving TD and a kickoff return TD. Majjette accounted for 5 total TDs. Also, Wade Harty was back in his MLB spot… from his pre-season injury. That’s a big addition to an already solid LB corps. Harty and Poole are very hardnosed ball hawks.
This Friday Page plays Dudley, if page get pass them they will go into the matchup against grimsley undefeated. Page has a good squad but Grimsley offense maybe too much for Page. It’ll be a close 1st half but i think Grimsley will pull away in the 2nd half.
