PFAFFTOWN, N.C. — Lake Norman didn’t need the golden arm of Kaden Craft for much of Friday’s game. He did more with his legs, and the Wildcats stayed a step ahead of Reagan in a battle of two top-15 teams.
But when it mattered most, with the game on the line, the only thing flying higher than the still-undefeated Lake Norman was Doc Caldwell snagging the final pass of Craft with 1.4 seconds left to come away with a 31-24 win.
No. 9 Lake Norman and No. 12 Reagan traded field goals in the last 2 minutes and 35 seconds. Reagan’s 38-yard field goal by Damian Gutierrez with 50.5 seconds left didn’t give Lake Norman much time.
But the showdown between two Top 25 teams was destined to come down to the last play. Lake Norman went 82 yards in three plays: a 17-yard pass to Jaydan Lewis-Williams, a 33-yard perfectly-dropped pass to Noah Jacobsen, and the 32-yard dime to Caldwell, who adjusted midair to bring it down.
Reagan (4-1) nearly scored on the kickoff, which was backed up after the first kickoff attempt by Lake Norman (5-0) skipped out of bounds and was flagged. Reagan lateraled four times on the return but was tackled at the Wildcats 40.
Lake Norman held a 21-14 lead going into the fourth quarter after a long drive that ended with a 6-yard touchdown run by Craft. Reagan answered with a 7-yard pass from Brenner Pridgen to Julian Vasquez to knot it at 21-all with exactly seven minutes left.
Reagan also got a third quarter score from its Jaikoda Harrington, who alternates at quarterback with Pridgen, on a 15-yard scamper.
Lake Norman led 14-7 at halftime thanks to two short-field scoring drives.
Now we are done, it was a ton of fun, bringing you this special REWIND feature, for a Saturday Morning Run…And MORE coming your next time, on THE SATURDAY MORNING REWIND….Don’t miss it!!!
