Second-Half Surge Sends UNCG Women’s Soccer Past Tennessee Tech

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Tennessee Tech, newly added Southern Conference (SoCon) member, on Thursday evening at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

After a scoreless opening half, Madison Bass broke through for the Spartans in the 50th minute. Bass’ one-touch strike sent Tech’s goalkeeper to the left, but she was unable to stop the laser that gave UNCG a 1-0 lead at 49:54.

The Spartans doubled their advantage less than eight minutes later. Bass set up Merle Greulich, who finished with the low strike for her second goal of the season.
Tennessee Tech pressed for a response in the remaining minutes, placing four shots on goal. Blythe Clark turned away each opportunity, including three saves over the final 20 minutes, to preserve the shutout.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Greulich scored her second goal of the season and seventh of her career.
Bass registered her third goal and second assist of the season.
Clark made four saves in the shutout.
Both teams registered 10 shots in the match.
Tennessee Tech held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Spartans welcome the Mercer Bears to UNCG Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m. in SoCon action.
