RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Emily Roper and freshman Abby Barker of the Elon University softball team were selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 14.
Roper earns her first CAA weekly honor this season after the Cincinnati, Ohio, native batted a team-best .636 (7-for-11) during the Phoenix’s 4-1 week. She also scored and drove in six runs, had three doubles and drew six walks while having a .909 slugging percentage. Roper also reached base in each of the Phoenix’s five contests, extending her current streak to 12 games.
Barker threw the first perfect game in school history at the Division I level as the Granville, Ohio, native tossed 6.0 innings and struck out three batters in the Phoenix’s 8-0 win over Niagara on March 11. Barker finished last week with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 1.68 in her 8.1 innings of action. She also fanned four batters last week.
The Phoenix is back in action on Wednesday, March 16, hosting in-state rival Charlotte. That game is slated for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
