College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Slips To Third After 36 Holes of ODAC Championships

NELLYSFORD, Va. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 314 in Monday’s second round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships at the Wintergreen Resort. The teams played the Monacan and Shamokin layouts of the par-72, 6,910-yard Stoney Creek Golf Course.

The Quakers’ second-highest score of the season dropped them from first to third in the 10-team standings, eight strokes behind leader Washington and Lee University. The Generals shot the day’s low score (302) and enter Tuesday’s final round with a three-shot edge over second-place Virginia Wesleyan College. Washington and Lee leads with 606 strokes, followed by the Marlins (609), the Quakers (614) and Hampden-Sydney College (615).

Virginia Wesleyan’s Evan Cox tops the 50-man field after Monday’s three-over par 74 gave him a 36-hole 145, three shots better than Washington and Lee’s Luke Farley (72-76-148). Guilford’s Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day), who shared the 18-hole lead with Cox after a one-under 71 Sunday, fired a 78 Monday and holds third place at 149. Washington and Lee’s Todd Alan McDonald had Monday’s low score (71), which helped him to a share of fourth place on the leader board with Shenandoah University’s Evan Cooke (78-72) at 150.

Palmer’s 78 marked the Quakers’ low round Monday. Teammate Josh Hill shot 79 and shares 19th place individually at 78-79-157. Tommy Schick fell five spots to eighth place on the leader board after Monday’s round of 80 put him at 152, four strokes ahead of teammate Justin Perdue, who also shot 80 Monday. Perdue’s 156 total shares 15th place among individuals. Senior Aaron Abts (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ledford (UNC Pemboke)) trimmed 11 strokes off his opening-round 92 Monday and is in 44th place at 173.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers, ranked 15th in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches’ Poll and 17th in this week’s Golfstat.com Division III Head-to-Head Ratings, are the five-time defending tournament champions. The 54-hole event concludes Tuesday.
