With the Hickory Crawdads’ 5-4 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers in ten innings on Saturday night, the ‘Dads have now won 11 consecutive contests…Tonight was the night of ghost runners and both the ‘Dads and the Hoppers scored runs in the extra inning, but the difference maker was the ‘Dads coming home twice, and the Hoppers could only come up with one run in the half of the 10th inning….Hickory loaded the based vs. Greensboro reliever Yunior Thibo in the 10th, and the there was no denying the ‘Dads…

Sammy Siani scored for the Hoppers in the tenth innng, while Hickory got their runs from Frainyer Chavez and Keyber Rodriguez…For the Grasshoppers, they picked up 8 hits on the night, with Brenden Dixon going 2-3/HR/BB/Run….Mike Jarvis was 2-5/Double/Run…Tres Gonzalez goes 1-4/BB, Jackson Glenn 0-3/BB/Run/RBI, Jase Bowen 1-5, Eli Wilson 1-4/RBI, Sammy Siani 1-4/Run….The Hoppers walked three times in this ballgame, but they fell 14 times, by the way of the K/strikeout…

The Hoppers were 3-9 with men in scoring position, and they left seven men on base…

Grasshoppers’ starting pitcher Thomas Harrington went 5 innings, giving up three runs on five hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts…Kind of wild, but yet kind of close, as the Hickory Crawdads starting pitcher Emiliano Teodo went five innings, allowing three runs, on five hits, with one walk, and again, seven strikeouts…

We spoke on the ‘Dads and their now-current eleven-game winning streak, and for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, their streak has now reached six games, and over those last six games, the Hoppers have come up short, each time out….

Freeman Delivers 10th Inning Walk Off
Streak Hits 11 Wins with 5-4 Win

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads came back in the tenth inning to walk-it-off against the Greensboro Grasshoppers 5-4. The win was the team’s eleventh consecutive victory.

The Crawdads got rolling early, putting up a run in the first. Maximo Acosta doubled, and Abimelec Ortiz extended his hit streak to 15 games with a triple in the right-center gap to bring in the run.

Greensboro tied the game with a run in the third and took a 3-1 lead in the fourth with two runs.

The Crawdads evened the game at three in the fifth. They got runners on the corners as Frainyer Chavez walked and Keyber Rodriguez singled to right. Alejandro Osuna doubled to left, bringing in both runners.

The game remained tied through nine, sending it to extras.

Greensboro got their designated runner around from second in the top half of the inning, but the Crawdads wasted no time doing the same, as Rodriguez singled in Chavez from second on the second pitch of home half of the frame. The ‘Dads proceed to load the bases as Maximo Acosta walked and Ortiz was hit by a pitch. The Grasshoppers were forced to change pitchers after taking two mound visits, bringing in a righty reliever to face Cody Freeman. Freeman hit a high fly ball to shallow center field that the fielder dove for, allowing Rodriguez to tag up and score the winning run.

The Crawdads will try for their twelfth straight win tomorrow, which would tie a franchise best. The game will feature the biggest post-game firework show of the season, thanks to Mumy Financial and KICKS 103.3. The seating bowl is sold out but standing room only tickets are available for $5.
