Smith wants to the wear the crown being back in the title game for the second straight year, but most people thought #1 Smith would be facing #2 seed Greensboro Day School, but here you go with #1 Smith looking to hold off that Upstart Bunch from Page High School…A Pirate bunch, with a Chip on their Shoulder….Smith and Page met back in late November, and the Smith Golden Eagles came away that night, with a 28-point win over the Page Pirates….These two also got together in the Championship Game of the Guilford County Summer League, back in July, and Smith being coached by Ben L. assistant Bret Hinson topped Page o on that Friday afternoon…So the Golden Eagles and the Pirates have already faced off in a title game this year, but today, at the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse, the stakes are MUCH higher…This is the 2023 HAECO Invitational Basketball Championship Game…All the marbles are on the floor, and we ask you and them all the same question, “Who wants it MORE?”……Smith with Gage Lattimore, Jaylon Bumpass, Kenny Miller Jr., Tayshawn Mann, and Micah Cowan set to start it off for the Golden Eagles…Page counters with Jackson Sellars, Andrew Bartlett, Alex Jones, Tyren Martin, and probably Christian Stewart…Did the BIG win on Thursday night, with Page stopping Greensboro Day, take too much out of the Page Pirates sails??? Knowing that they routed Page back in November, can Smith set the intensity tone up/high enough to get the scissors sharpened and prepared in place, to cut down the nets??? This has the makings of a ‘Story Book” ending, and whose story will Bryant Roche from the News and Record, plus our GreensboroSports.com guru, say the N&R and the GSOSports guru, who do they write about when the trophy is handed out later tonight???
