Greensboro Grasshoppers(52-31/13-5)
Winston-Salem Dash(40-44/9-9)
The Hoppers put an end to their three-game losing skid, with their 3-0 shutout win over the WS Dash, on Thursday night at First National Bank Field…Excellent starting pitching from the Hoppers’ RHP Derek Diamond, and equally as strong long relief work, from the Hoppers’ bullpen, with Yoldin De La Paz coming in to clean up the back end of the game, and he preserved the shutout….
It was a solo Home Run from Luke Brown, that got the Hoppers going, giving them a 1-0 advantage in the contest, in the bottom of the fifth inning…Both teams rolling along scoreless during the first 4 1/2 innings of this ballgame…The Grasshoppers added a run from Jack Brannigan in the sixth inning, and then they got another insurance run, when Sergio Campana scored while running for Nick Cimillo, in the eighth inning….
Derek Diamond was the Hoppers’ starting pitcher and he was outstanding…Diamond worked six innings, and allowed 0 WS Dash runs, with just two Dash hits, and 1 BB/5 Ks…Very strong starting pitching from Diamond…After a walk to the second WS Dash batter in the game(Eddie Park), Derek Diamond retired 16 straight Dash batters…
Yoldin De La Paz took over for Diamond in the 7th inning, and he closed out the last three frames of the game, while giving up 0 Runs, on 2 hits, with 1 BB/2 Ks…Very, very efficient pitching from Diamond and De La Paz, on Thursday night at First National Bank Field…
Defensive Players of the Game, for sure Diamond and De La Paz, and the Hoppers got a very solid effort on defense also, from third baseman Maikol Escotto, and his receiver at first base, Nick Cimillo…Good connections between Escotto and Cimillo in this win/victory….
Cimillo was also shining at the plate, as he went 1-1/Double/3 BBs…Cimillo’s runner, Sergio Campana scored one run…Luke Brown had the big blast of the game for the Hoppers, with his HR making Brown, 1-3/Run/RBI…Brown’s homer made for Hopper team homer #132 for the season….Another Hopper with a solid night at the plate was Hudson Head, going 2-3/BB…The Grasshoppers’ Jack Brannigan went 1-4/Run…Maikol Escotto was 1-3/BB/RBI…Mitch Jebb was 0-3/BB…Shawn Ross 0-2/SAC Fly RBI…Geovanny Planchart was 0-2/2 BBs…The Grasshoppers drew a total of 8 walks in the game…The Hopper batters struck out 10 times in the contest…
Good work turned in on Thursday night by the Greensboro Grasshoppers…Nice to get back into that win column..The Greensboro Grasshoppers are (14-7) vs. the WS Dash this season….
Top Dash hitters in the game were, Eddie Park, 2-3/BB…Loidel Chapelli 1-4…D.J. Gladney 1-4…And that was the Dash, and their four hits on the night…The Dash side of the scorebook was a lovely sight…Very clean, very little activity, and easy to read and follow…
