On a clear, crisp night, the 7A Lake Norman Wildcats defeated the 6A Mount Tabor Spartans with a final score of 48-28.
The Wildcats took control early, establishing a commanding 27-0 lead by halftime. Their scoring was initiated by talented running back Allen Jones, who scored from 2 yards out after a 45-yard drive. Following an interception of Tabor quarterback Kingston Brown, Jones found the end zone again with a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter. The Wildcats capitalized on a bad snap that resulted in a turnover on downs, with quarterback Kaden Craft rushing for a 3-yard touchdown. Before the half, Craft connected with wide receiver Doc Caldwell for a 44-yard touchdown pass, though the extra point was missed.
Mount Tabor came to life in the second half. On their first possession after intermission, replacement quarterback Jayden Muhfooth-Smith threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Meche Thompson. They successfully converted the two-point conversion to make it 27-8.
The second half turned into a high-scoring affair with both teams trading touchdowns. Allen Jones of Lake Norman continued his impressive performance with touchdown runs of 65 and 51 yards. Tabor’s scoring came from tailback Jamarius Hunder’s rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown from Kingston Brown to Meche Thompson, and a 16-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Thompson. Lake Norman’s Jeremy Mitchell also contributed to the scoring with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Despite Mount Tabor’s second-half efforts, the Wildcats’ early lead proved insurmountable, and Lake Norman secured the victory with a final score of 48-28.
