That was one of the most Peaceful drives home coming out of Eastern Guilford High School after the Southeast-Eastern Guilford game last night…Nice and quiet heading back up Highway 70 going East…Not much traffic, just a very smooth ride, and we had great hospitality from EG AD Jay White and his staff, and had a very good talk with EG head coach Tim Bagamary, and had a super solid visit with SEG leader Earl Bates, down there at his old stomping grounds, there in Gibsonville…
And the SEG-EG game was one of better games of the year…Got to see some pound and ground and move around running from the SEG Falcons led by Travis Motley, Caleb Jackson, and their ever-important next-man-up runner Joshua Williams-Hatten…Saw for the first time, Eastern Guilford’s Keyvon Haynes, and that WR #7 Haynes can run some routes…Enjoyed watching Haynes do his thing, and made me think back to Marcus Haynes from the Raiders, back in the day…Plus EG QB Javion Majette is really coming on, he is showing much improvement, here in his junior year…
So, all-in-all good feelings and good vibes coming out of Eastern Guilford last night…That journey home from Highway 70/East Wendover Avenue/Old Burlington Road was a pleasure…
But, as I was nearing the city limits, I must have made a wrong turn somewhere, because before my night was over, I had came upon a “Nightmare On Elm Street”…
A “Nightmare on Elm Street”, you might say…Yes, is my reply…
I got home in time to watch the Friday night high school highlights shows, where you can get your scores and see the video footage of the games that were played that night…So, I am watching the shows, and I saw that Ragsdale had upset Page in OT….I knew that the game was going to Overtime, because Coach Norris had told me as much, as we were leaving out of Eastern Guilford…But here comes that “Nightmare on Elm Street”, because I got word later into the evening, and really it was more like into the 1-2am hour of Saturday morning, that Freddie Kruger was seen somewhere over off of Alma Pinnix Drive in the area/vicinity of Elm Street there in the Page HS territory, and Mr. Kruger had taken over the scoreboard at the Marion Kirby Stadium, and he was playing tricks on everyone…
What had appeared on TV to be Ragsdale topping Page in OT, was in reality Page surviving and defeating Ragsdale in Overtime…So Page, not Ragsdale had won the game by six…Therefore, Page was declared the winner, and the Friday Night Drama Series continues…
The “Peaceful Easy Feeling” became a “Nightmare on Elm Street”, but Freddie Kruger was finally run out of town…So, we got that issue resolved for our Rewind intro…Now time to go back to last night’s games…And after this shell-shocking opening, how do we raise the bar even higher on the Saturday Morning Rewind Machine???
