WCA Names Rachel Marquez as Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach
Wesleyan Christian Academy is proud to announce the hiring of Rachel Marquez as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Basketball program. A dynamic leader with more than a decade of coaching experience across high school, collegiate, and elite club levels, Marquez brings a proven track record of developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
Coach Marquez most recently served as Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach at Burlington Christian Academy, where she led the entire girls basketball program with a focus on culture, player development, and long-term success. Her leadership emphasized accountability, resilience, and goal-setting while building strong relationships with players, families, and the school community.
In addition to her high school success, Marquez has collegiate coaching experience at Averett University, where she contributed to player development and game strategy. She also served as a head coach on the Nike EYBL circuit, working with high-level athletes and helping them navigate both academic and athletic pathways.
A former collegiate athlete herself, Marquez is widely respected for her ability to mentor young women and prepare them for success beyond basketball. Her holistic approach includes a strong emphasis on academics, leadership, and personal growth.
“Coach Marquez brings incredible energy, vision, and experience to our program,” said John Hughes, Athletic Director at Wesleyan Christian Academy. “Her passion for developing young women, combined with her commitment to excellence and strong faith, makes her a perfect fit for Wesleyan Christian Academy.”
Marquez’s Christian faith plays a central role in her coaching philosophy. She is dedicated to building a program rooted in character, integrity, and purpose, while encouraging student-athletes to grow not only as competitors, but as individuals who positively impact others.
“I am honored and excited to join Wesleyan Christian Academy,” said Marquez. “I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our student-athletes and helping them grow in their faith, character, and love for the game. Our goal is to create a program that reflects excellence in everything we do, on the court, in the classroom, and in our community.”
In addition to her coaching accomplishments, Marquez is an accomplished professional leader in public health and operations, bringing a unique perspective on teamwork, leadership, and community impact.
Wesleyan Christian Academy looks forward to the future under Coach Marquez’s leadership as she begins this exciting new chapter with the Varsity Girls Basketball program. There will be an introductory meeting on Monday, May 11th at 6:00 pm in the WCA Commons to meet Coach Marquez. All players, parents, and community members are invited to hear more about her and her vision.
