Grasshoppers Fall to Keys, 13-1, in Game One of SAL Divisional Series

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Grasshoppers fell to the Frederick Keys, 13-1, on Tuesday, September 8, in Game One of the best-of-three South Atlantic League Divisional Series. Frederick outhit Greensboro, 10-2, while the Grasshoppers committed one error.

Leading the way at the plate for Greensboro was outfielder Edward Florentino, who went 1-for-4 with one run scored. Outfielder Josh Tate went 1-for-2 and recorded the Grasshoppers’ only other hit of the game.

Outfielder Ty Head led the Keys offensively, going 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Outfielder Enddy Azocar followed with a 2-for-5 performance that included a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Jaiden Lo Re and Braylin Tavera each recorded two hits, while DJ Layton and Leandro Arias each added a hit for Frederick.

Right-handed pitcher Ronaldo Gallo started on the mound for Greensboro and recorded four strikeouts while allowing three hits and three earned runs over 3.2 innings of work. Gallo was charged with the loss and fell to 0-1 in the postseason.

Left-handed pitcher Boston Bateman started for Frederick and recorded 10 strikeouts while allowing two hits, one earned run and three walks over five innings. Bateman earned the win and improved to 1-0 in the postseason.

The Grasshoppers will continue their SAL Divisional Series against the Keys in Frederick on Thursday, September 10. If necessary, Game Three will be played on Friday, September 11.
