High School OT on the Grimsley-Page game, from last night, at Jamieson Stadium…
Shoemake’s four rushing touchdowns, second-half shutout lift No. 3 Grimsley over rival Page
The Grimsley High School Whirlies hosted the rival Page High School Pirates in a key Metro 6A/7A Conference matchup.
from Laieke Abebe, HighSchoolOT contributor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Efficiency in all three phases, a big performance from Grimsley’s offensive line and tough running from Ty Shoemake paved the way for a key conference victory.

The Whirlies extended their regular season winning streak to 69 consecutive games with a 43-12 victory over Page on Friday at Jamieson Stadium. Although Grimsley had to shake off a good start from the Pirates, they outscored their city rivals, 28-0 in the second half.

Grimsley hasn’t lost a regular season matchup since Oct. 4, 2019 against East Forsyth. The back-to-back NCHSAA state champions also have 39 straight victories overall, including the postseason, which is the longest active streak in North Carolina.

Grimsley (8-0, 4-0), who is now in sole possession of first place in the Metro 6A/7A, featured their ground game early on their opening drive as Ty Shoemake generated a couple of first downs. However, the Whirlies’ opening possession was derailed by a turnover from the Pirates’ defense.

Brody Lowe attempted to set up a middle screen, but defensive lineman Latrey Brandon read the play perfectly to halt the hosts. However, Page was unable to take advantage of the miscue.

It was the Whirlies’ turn to make a defensive stand as a Robert Scott fourth-and-three rush attempt was stuffed by Tristan Wardlaw. This gave Grimsley a short field to work with, and they used that to open the scoring.
