Very interesting read here from the Charlotte Observer on-line this morning…..
Jim Harrick(UCLA, Rhode Island, Georgia), was courtside during Wolfpack practice Tuesday and was wearing an N.C. State shirt and carrying a clipboard, and he is a “mentor” and “personal advisor” to Gottfried but not a university employee, according to N.C. State Atheltic Director, Debbie Yow…..
(Harrick was in town[Greensboro] back around 2001, with his Georgia Bulldogs and I remember following him and his Bulldogs during their workouts at the Greensboro Day School, out on Lawndale Drive….Harrick had quite a big family with him; wife, kids, grandkids etc….)

I think Jim Harrick still has a lot left to offer the basketball coaching profession. With Harrick and Bobby Lutz on board the IQ of this coaching staff is already way ahead of the previous bunch. The preceeding staff thought they had already done it all and they had as players, but not as coaches. Harrick and Lutz will be a big help to Gottfried.
My, my. Harrick has gotten three colleges in trouble with the NCAA, and Gottfried worked for him for 8 years. Now State is bringing him to campus to help mentor and advise.
I can’t even imagine the uproar among State fans if this was occurring in Chapel Hill, rather than Raleigh. The hypocrisy is striking, and I include you in that remark Andy.
That’s why we posted this….To get people’s opinions on this matter and we got yours and that is what we are always looking for…..State is looking for help any way they can get it…They really want to see their program get better and advance….I wouldn’t expect the North Carolina program to make a move such as this….The Tar Heels’ program is in great shape and has been for many years with the exception of the Matt Doherty era….With the way the UNC basketball program is built, they are looking good and getting better….Would be nice to be in that position and if I were there. I would be very thankful….Saw it in Raleigh in the early to mid-70’s and that was a glorious time…..Will be nice to get back there one day if that happens and if it doesn’t then I will never quit trying…..Never quit trying, picked that up in the 80’s run….
Got to run, thanks for the input and keep it coming….We have a ton of great basketball fans out there and that is something this state can be proud of and I would like to think we are a part of that fanaticism here at this site…..Time to get on down to aircraft carrier and swab the deck/court…..
I think it should be pointed out that “State” is not bringing him to campus to mentor and advise. He will not be employed or paid by the State of NC. He is Gottfried’s personal friend and mentor.
