ACC Eye Openers

The ACC hoops got busy this past weekend and the results are in but not all of our in-state teams were on.  The North Carolina Tar Heels and Wake Forest Demon Deacons each reached “Winners” status, while Duke and N.C. State fell hard into the losers bracket.

Even with all the superstar freshmen on board, Tyler Hansbrough has been the most consistant Tar Heel with 25/13 in Sunday’s 84-58 win over Florida State.  The Heels should move into the #1 spot in the country after UCLA’s loss on Saturday.  Rayshawn Terry didn’t score a point for UNC agaisnt the Seminoles after leading the way for the Heels in their victory over PENN.

Duke can’t handle Virginia Tech in overtime and N.C. State gets blown out by Boston College in Raleigh.  Wake pulls out a 59-58 win over Miami and the young Deacons were glad to get the “W”.  Clemson is still undefeated at 16-0, but only ranked 23rd in the recent national poll.

Big Ben Strong and Guilford saw their season-opening unbeaten streak halted at Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon as the Marlins topped the Quakers 75-55.  The Quakers had won 10 in a row to start the year and now stand at 10-1 with more ODAC foes due up this week.  Greensboro College lost to Southern Virginia by 4 on Saturday, while UNCG fell by 3 to WCU, and NC A&T crushed Maryland Eastern Shore at the Corbett Center.
