If I were a betting man….

Every week you hear the infomercials from pigskin pundits claiming to have the inside track on the upcoming week of games with their SUPER MILENNIUM blowouts and garbage like that. Well with that in mind I present to you some propositions for the upcoming weekend. Of course all prognostications are purely for entertainment purposes. Yeah right, I know you degenerates will be calling your bookie first thing in the morning. Of course if by some chance a good number of these hit you derelicts will have to cough up some cake if you want next weeks selections!

In College ball:

I really like Syracuse +12 ½ from Illinois. Sure the Orange is in a rebuilding phase. And yes Illinois looked pretty good last week against Missouri, but in no way are the Illini worthy of this many points on the road.

UCONN routed Dook a couple of weeks back, then again who doesn’t beat the Blue Devils like a drum in this day and age. This week the Huskies play one program which is even more inept in Temple. The Owls just do not have much to hoot about, but Bill Cosby’s alma mater is good for containing a 29 ½ point line.

In one contest it probably would not be a bad idea to drop a big number is the Penn State-Buffalo battle. Joe Pa does not run the score up on opponents, but even with that the -35 looks pretty good, this is one the Nittany Lions should win by fifty.

Auburn is going to be upset after getting upset by South Florida. This does not bode well for a Mississippi State team which is still struggling in the fourth year of Sylvester Crooms tenure. Lay the -13 ½ in what should be a laugher.

Va. Tech -21 against the Bobcats of Ohio seems reasonable enough. Again this will be a case of a team taking out their frustrations against outmanned opponents.

Wake is a three touchdown favorite over Army, just too many points to lay on a Deacon club that has come crashing down to earth. In fact don’t be too surprised if Wake gets caught a little flat-footed this week and that the Cadets give Wake a tough game.

I would stay away from playing the line on the UT-Florida game in the swamp. But I do really like the looks of the total, the over-under is 55 1/2, this will be a game in which these two teams will easily combine for over sixty.

It’s a whole lot of lumber, but OU laying -46 on Utah State is not a bad proposition. This has the look of a seventy point beat down all over it!

In what would a real statement win for Ty Willingham I will take his homestanding Washington Huskins getting four from The Ohio State University. In fact do not be surprised at all if Washington wins this one outright.

Texas -18 on the road at Central Florida is one heck of a value.

Take UCLA -7 & the over on the road at Utah.

East Carolina is due for a serious letdown after taking out the Heels last week. Southern Miss -1 seems like an excellent proposition.

Louisville -5 ½ against in state rival Kentucky seems solid, the Cards should claim at least a 2 TD victory.

Ga. Tech -7 at home to BC looks like stealing candy from a baby. Look for the Jackets to sting the Eagles by double digits.

Ten points is a lot to lay in Lincoln Nebraska, but USC has more than enough to cover it.

FSU is a shadow of what they used to be, but I still think they have more than enough to cover 4 ½ on the road at Colorado

And lastly even though it is a lot of lumber I will take LSU -41 against Middle Tennessee, if they could be VPI by 41 no telling what they will do to a directional school!

In the pros:

Pittsburg should be good for -9 ½ on the Bills

The same goes for the Hometown Hero Carolina Panthers as they should easily cover -6 ½ on the Texans.

Brett Favre is not a great road quarterback, but I like him and the Packers +1 over a Giants club without Eli Manning for about a month.

The Pats look like an excellent play giving -3 ½ to the Chargers.

And I like the Skins +7 over the Eagles on MNF.

  1. My goodness, I hope you don’t actually bet, because you got your ass handed to you this weekend if you did.

Leave the picking to the pros, kid.

  2. I believe that comment came from the stable of my old buddy Bruce “The BULL” Bullington. “The Bull says he’ll take this topic “If I was a Betting Man”, and run with it next week and he says he’ll finish with a winning %. At least I think that’s what the Bull is saying. What do you say Paul? Do you think the Bull can do it and are you ready to turn over the reins for one week to the Bull? Let us know and if the Bull is out there is he ready to send Paul out to Pasture and grab this post or column by the horns?

This could make for good copy or interesting fodder.

  3. El Toro may not be an expert, but he has laid out plenty of lettuce honing his skills over the years.
