#1)Catawba(6-0) Last week 1-The Indians are still unbeaten after Saturday’s 28-18 win over Newberry. Will face Carson-Newman and Southern Guilford-grad Alex Good this week. QB Good is playing great for C-N.
#2)Appalachian State (5-1)LW 2-The Mountaineers have now won 30 in a row at home after Saturday’s slaughter of Gardner-Webb 45-7. RB Kevin Richardson scored 4 TD’s, all in the second quarter.
#3)East Carolina(3-3)LW6-After what the Pirates did to Central Florida, they deserve a push. The 52-38 victory in Greenville was witnessed by Southeast Guilford’s Justin Venable with mom, dad, and girlfriend in tow. ECU out-scored UCF 28-3 in the 3rd quarter.
#4)Wake Forest(3-2)LW4-The Demon Deacons have some offense but the defense gave them a scare in the 41-36 win over Duke. Wake’s Kenneth Moore is probably the hottest all-around player in the conference and Blue Devil QB Thaddeus Lewis can stay with most of the other QB’s.
#5)Elon(3-2)LW5-The Phoenix and their Freshman QB Scott Riddle out of Eastern Randolph are making it happen with the 38-36 squeeker going their way up in Cullowhee against Western Carolina on Saturday night. Riddle had 4 TD’s passing and he ran for another.
#6)Guilford College(4-1)LW3-You snooze you lose and that’s why the Quakers are falling this week in the poll after last Saturday’s open date. Quakers return to ODAC action this week. I was up at Guilford on Sunday night and there was a young lady laying out in the road under a streetlight doing her studies. Highway engineering student I guess?
#7)Winston-Salem State(3-3)LW7-The Rams defeated Florida A&M 27-23 in the Circle City Classic out in Indianapolis, Indiana. Former WS Parkland star RB Jed Bines with 126 yards and key TD to pace WSSU.
#8)Wingate(5-1)LW8-The Bulldogs blasted Brevard 51-7 to maintain a spot in our coveted poll.
#9)North Carolina(2-4)LW NR-The Heels showed some perseverence and held on to beat the Mighty Miami Hurricanes in Chapel Hill on Saturday. 33-27 UNC-CH and T.J. Yates is making Butch Davis look like Bill Walsh.
#10)Greensboro College(1-4)-The Pride continue to slide but they are still our own and with Torrey Lowe catching 6 passes for 132 yards and 1 TD the Pride were in it until Christopher Newport started smoking and the Captains came away with a 52-21 victory. Number 57 for CNU had a beautiful mother and she kept us all on our toes on the Captains side of the field. Very attractive and very knowledgeable about football.
Also receiving consideration:UNCG women’s volleyball team. Katherine Hart had 17 kills in a loss to Appalachian on Saturday and Katherine is our GREENSBOROSports.com college volleyball Player-of-the Week.
In the interest of pimping UNCG sports again, I think the women’s volleyball team should be ranked higher in this list. The main reason would be this: how many of the “Top 10” teams had any kills last week, much less 17 of them?
Pimping ‘aint Easy.
Gentlemen, locally we have The Center for Creative Leadership. Here at the GREENSBOROSports.com blog we have The Center for Creative Thinking and tonight you both have earned your Sheepskins.
Mike, you are working toward a PhD.
Respect your freakin’ midmajors!
UNC-P deserves to be recognized!! They defeated the always tough Webber International (Webber lost to the Citidel 75 – 0) this week to go 3 – 3 in their first year of football in over 50 years!
Who do we drop out of the poll? UNC-Pembroke comes in and _____________
falls out? I hate to dispel my own hometown but it may be Greensboro College if they lose again this Saturday. UNC-P beat GC earlier this season if I remember correctly.
Ehh knock out UNC.
Nobody cool roots for them anyway.
