Greensboro Day School is set to host Word of God in a boys basketball contest tonight at the Bengals’ campus on Lawndale Drive. The Bengals(24-2) are coached by Freddy Johnson and led by inside force Javan Mitchell, shooting guard Bruce Woodalll, and point guard Jay Lewis, plus Chip Wintringham, Brandon Dorsett, Ryan Carty, and Lucas Weavil. Coach Johnson will run his men in and out of the lineup and he likes a deep rotation. Jordan Robertson will spell Mitchell on the inside and the Bengals will be running on offense and playing defense that will try and suffocate WOD. Many times it appears that Coach Johnson is keeping his guys in shape by running them in and out of that lineup.
WOD is ranked either number eight in the nation or #17 in the country depending on who you talk to. Word of God is coached by Levi Beckwith who used to be at Southern Durham and at Southeast Guilford. His son Lance Beckwith is supposed to be one of the stars of the team and I guess we will find out tonight at 7pm in the Dilliard Gym on the Greensboro Day School campus. Word of God is ranked #1 in the state of North Carolina by MaxPreps.com while they have Trinity at #4, GDS is #6 and Dudley is ranked #17.
The Word of God Holy Rams are out of Raleigh and have an overall record of (22-1) with two of those wins coming against Ravenscroft, a team that beat GDS. WOD defeated Ravenscroft 65-62 and 68-60. As a team WOD is averaging 77.5 points per game and is allowing 60.3 per contest and the Rams are lead in scoring by John Wall at 13.5 ppg and he paces a lineup with balanced scoring. Beckwith is averaging 8.2 ppg.
The only team to defeat Word of God this season is Wheeler HS out of Marietta, Georgia and it was decisive, 98-84. WOD seems to like a low scoring game so hopefully the Bengals will keep it low, but GDS will come out the winner.
That’s 7pm this evening at GDS and we plan to have GREENSBOROSports.com there with video and pictures. Greensboro Day School versus Word of God, one of the nation’s top ranked teams, let’s all come out and support the Bengals.
How can you match up with THE WORD OF GOD??
You may be on to something. WOG is (22-1) and they are known as the Holy Rams.
FOI(For our information from NJM) Not Jim Melvin, how did the show go in Seagrove last Saturday night with with Ted DiBiase and Baby Doll, George South, Jimmy Valiant etc? I saw where DiBiase was appearing at the Omega Sports store on Battleground Avenue last Friday evening from 7-9pm. Any word on the Tim Blaze Supershow? We may have to bring Bruce Mitchell or John Hitchcock in on this one to solve the mystery of Showdown in Seagraove Town.
I am out of the loop, bruce probably has the scoop.
