Senior standouts named for NCCA East-West All-Star Games

The state’s top high school senior athletes have accepted invitations to participate in the NCCA East-West All-Star Games in July.

Many of the state’s best football seniors are to play in the 60th football all-star game in Greensboro on July 23 (8 p.m. kickoff).

AP All-State selection Terry Vaughan, a defensive tackle of New Bern High School, is expected to play for the East team. Expected to join him are a trio of All-State selections: Andrae Jacobs, a linebacker of South Columbus High School, Larry McDonald, a defensive tackle of Orange High School and a Florida State University signee, and LaKeeem Perry, a defensive end of Louisburg High School and a Catawba College signee.

The West team is expected to counter with their own AP All-State selections, defensive back Justin Avery of West Rowan High School and a UNC Pembroke signee, and Casey Augustine, an offensive lineman from Watauga High. They will be joined by fellow UNC Pembroke signees Joseph Hayes, an offensive lineman of Northeast Guilford High School, and Josh Pless, a defensive lineman of Western Guilford High School. Two North Carolina A & T State University signees, Kimeko James, an offensive lineman of Parkland High School, and Michael Mayhew, a running back of East Mecklenburg High School, will also be featured.

The East won last year’s game 22-14, but the West leads the overall series 35-23-1.

+++++Also locally on the West squad you have Kendall Bratcher from NEG who was a QB in high school but is listed as a WR on the West roster, plus there’s Demarcus Ferguson of Page at LB, and Ryan Kurzec, OL from Ragsdale.+++++
