Wilborn and Richburg not enough: GC women fall at Maryville, now on to Virginia Intermont

Greensboro College women’s hoops:

Maryville, Tenn. — Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham) scored a game-high 17 points and Bianca Richburg (Hillsborough/Orange High School) notched a double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds), but Greensboro College lost at Maryville, 71-61, on Wednesday night. The Pride dropped to 1-6 and the Scots improved to 6-3.

Wilborn was 7-19 from the field and made two three-pointers. Richburg was 6-13 shooting. Paige Seiver led four MC players in double-digits with 15 points.

Maryville led 37-27 at the break. The Scots led by as many as 22 points (with 11:57 left) before The Pride rallied. Richburg’s trey with 3:06 left cut the deficit to 69-61, the closest the visitors would get.

GC won the battle of the boards 48-38. However, The Pride was felled by 31 turnovers (MC had 24). Maryville shot 42 percent (26-62) while GC shot 36-percent (22-61).

Meredith Kelly (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance High) added 11 points and Diondra Cooper (Durham, NC/C. E. Jordan ) tallied nine for GC.

The Pride travel to Virginia Intermont for its final game of 2009 on Friday. Tip-off is 3 p.m.
