I had the opportunity to interview Chris Causey’s uncle the other night and Don Causey, was on the 1969 State Champion Baseball team, at Southeast Guilford.
Chris Causey is the head football and baseball coach at Western Guilford and his uncle played for the Southeast Guilford Falcons. Don Causey, was back at Southeast Guilford last Thursday night, to help honor his old football coach and baseball coach Bill Slayton.
Slayton was the head coach of the SEG Falcon team that won the baseball title in 1969. Slayton was also the football coach at Southeast for many seasons…..
Don Causey was a star player on the baseball championship team in ’69 and he also played football for SEG. Causey was an outstanding player in both sports and he parlayed his sports cereer into a 30-year career with the FBI. He now works in the area of Security, with the Moses Cone Health Care Systems….
Causey and I touched on former NFL center Billy Bryan, from Burlington Willaims and Duke University, who went on to a career with the FBI down in Alabama, after his NFL playing days were over….Bryan’s son now plays for Alabama and the Crimson Tide will be in Durham to play the Duke Blue Devils this season.
We also talked to former Southern Guilford, Appalachian State and NFL-star Dino Hackett on Thursday night. Hackett had his jersey retired at Appalachian after a stellar career and spent almost 10 years in the NFL with Kansas City and Seattle….
Don Causey, once a Southeast Guilford Falcon, now follows his nephew’s team at Western Guilford and to make this triology even more interesting, is the fact that Chris Causey’s dad used to help coach football and baseball down at Southeast Guilford..
On any given Friday night now though, you’ll find all the Causeys at the Western Guilford football games and when baseball season rolls around again, you see them following the Black and Gold from WG…..
Good luck to Chris Causey’s Western Guiflord Hornets this season.
