Last night we got some good comments regarding our Score Board. Here’s How We Do It.
While Andy Durham, Jim Modlin and Dennis White are live on WPET-AM 950. I (Don Moore) am at home listening to the WPET Broadcast via the Internet. I use an Aluratek Desktop Internet Radio that allows me to listen to over 16,000 radio stations from around the world. I could also use my computer; but the Aluratek radio is wired into my Whole House Transmitter allowing me to listen to the broadcast throughout my house.
I create a Game Worksheet from Andy’s Game Post he writers earlier in the day. From that point, I listen to the broadcast.
Andy Durham has been reporting High School Sports for over 30 years and as a result has a large number of contacts. Jim Modlin has been doing color commentary with Andy over the past several years and between that and his work at Gold’s Gym (and Fitness Today before that) has developed a lot of contacts as well. Dennis White, who handles Game Analysis and Post-Game Interviews, adds even more contacts to the group.
During the Broadcast, Jim and Dennis works both their cell phones. They takes game reports from established contacts. These are people that we have established procedures, so as to avoid false reports and scores. We have found the parents who follow their teams often give us the best results.
Noise at the games often result in mistakes – from not hearing the cell phones at the game to me not understanding the scores on the radio. We are constantly adjusting to improve the process. We appreciate your input.
If you are interested in helping us with scores, let Andy know.
Andy, I deeply appreciate the work you do. I can’t imagine anyone else in the area who has contributed more time and effort to local sports. I have listened to you for years on the radio and now am really enjoying this site. Most of us also realize that you are pulling this off with a very small budget compared to the other media outlets in the area.
I don’t think the community at large realizes what sports can do to bring the people in our area together. No matter which team you pull for it is great fun to see what others have to say. You my friend…get it.
Well said sefan. I agree.
Andy- You’re my hero!!!
Nice work dedicated, tech-savvy staff!
We couldn’t afford to pay you guys what you are worth! Thanks from all of us, to all of you!
Well said Sefan!!!
Whether I’m away on business or vacation, I rely on Greensboro Sports for local
sports information. This site in my opinion is very hard to beat when you want
to catch up on sporting news on our area athletes. I don’t know what I would do
without it!!!! Keep up the good work Andy.
