Duke’s Kyle Singler was the leading vote-getter and only repeat selection for The Associated Press preseason men’s basketball All-America team, while North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes became the first freshman to make the list since voting began before the 1986-87 season.
The team, chosen by the 65-member national media panel that selects the AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll, was announced Monday.

Andy, I read the News and Record story and discovered that 4 out of the 5 All-Americans whom made it last year were underclassmen, the 5th player was a senior, but all are in the NBA. That tells you alot about this years team. It also tells us alot about the talent in the college ranks today. Players leave their high schools, play at private schools/AAU, go to college for 1 year, and then to the NBA. The talent level is very low and young. Singlar being named to the All-American Team is alot like during WWII where civlian boys were dating the prettiest girls because all ofthe handsome young men were away at war. …they dont have much to pick from.
It is a little different to have four of the five All-Americans college seniors and with John Wall and all the others that took off for the NBA after last season, you have to look to the senior class for a change…I’m thinking that Singler gave serious thought to leaving for the NBA, but decided to return for his senior year and with this preseason honor under his belt and last year’s National Championship, maybe his stock will keep on going up and let’s hope so, he is a very sound player and well versed in the fundamentals of basketball….A big man that can play outside and he can also take you to the basket…..Looking foward to seenig what Seth Curry will do at Duke, saw him several times when he was in high school…..I hear that Duke’s Ryan Kelly has put on some pounds and he has been working hard too along with the Plumlee boys…I had the chance to see all of them in high school too…..Also saw Reggie Bullock(UNC) quite a few times….A lot of good young in-state talent in the ACC….Some kids from out of state, but went to high school here….
Wonder if Barnes and Bullock will be one and done at North Carolina?
Barnes is probably much further along than Reggie Bullock, but I’m not too sure about Marshall……
Andy, I have those same questions too. Singler did the right thing by coming back to school. He is not an NBA player at all. JJ Reddick is a better player than singler and all he is a second/third tier player. Singler will not make it.
It is complete comedy that even though he is “considered” the top frosh in the United States that Harrison Barnes who has yet to lace up “a” sneaker in a real game at THE University of NCAA investigations, ummmm I mean North Carolina that he is given this honor. Was the greatest college player of all time, Tyler Hansbrough named preseason 1st Team All-America. No he just went out and proved it on the court. Absolutely absurd1 ! Just a bust waiting to happen…..
