New AP High School Football Polls are ready with Page still #2(4-A’s) and High Point Andrews falls to #8(2-A’s):No votes for other Guilford County teams

Page is still #2 this week in the 4-A poll and there is no reason why the Pirates shouldn’t stay there, if they keep winning over the next couple of weeks…..

High Point Andrews falls to from #3, to #8 in the 2-A poll and this comes after the Red Raiders’ loss to the Randleman Tigers, this past Friday night at A.J. Simeon Stadium….

Northern Guilford should be in the 3-A poll, but they are not and Northwest Guilford should at least be receiving some votes in the 4-A poll, but both teams have been left high and dry, again this week….

  1. (Without looking it up) Can anyone tell me what team came in 2nd place in the 1972 Superbowl? Or, (without looking it up) can someone tell me who was the Vice President (2nd in command) in 1947? OK, one more…who can tell me (again, without looking it up) who came in 2nd place in the metro 4 conference in GC in 1951? My point is…..NO ONE remembers 2nd PLACE for long. Well, other than if you were a part of that LOSING team.

My point is…people may remember Page as holding the top spot in our local area but 10, maybe 15 years from now, they won’t remember them as being 2nd or 3rd in North Carolina! They’ll most likely know who held the TOP SPOT in ALL of North Carolina!

    .
Little known fact–Page is one of only three teams who has won back-to-back-to back Championships in their conference in the State of North Carolina. (Independence is another)
    .
I say…..let’s continue to strive to get that top spot in ALL of North Carolina. One thing’s for certain and two thing’s for sure…….when your striving to get to the top, that’s where your head’ll be facing…UP!

    Keep your heads up Pirates!!!!!

  2. George Allen of the Washington Redskins said it well, back in the 70’s……Remember Grant, remember Lee, to heck with them, remember me……….

  3. I can’t tell you (without looking) who was “1st place” in Highschool football in the Metro 4 in GC in 1951. I couldn’t tell you who was 1st place 5 years ago. I couldn’t tell you who won the superbowl three years ago. I can tell you what teams were perenially strong and who is good now.

Oh, and how about Yogi, “I nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore”

  4. There was no Metro 4A conf. in 1951………….in fact, Dudley along with the other “black schools” weren’t allowed to compete for NCHSAA state titles back then…..
