  1. Southeast Guilford went from traveling to Jamestown to now traveling to Durham…..That is really taking a team out of their geographic pod…..Maybe they will now be facing an easier opponent….Ragsdale at (8–2) and in turn meeting the Knights at (4-5)……

I was kind of looking forward to that meeting in Jamestown with two Guilford County teams…..

  2. How is it that N.W. Guilford has to travel to Richmond Co. AGAIN !!! What this 3 or 4 years straight. N.W. was tied for first and Richmond was a 2nd Place team behind SCOTLAND CO. WOW !!!

  3. Four years in a row that we will have to travel to Richmond County if these brackets don’t change. However, there was a draw between Ragsdale, NW, and East Forsyth as stated by the NCHSAA rules since there was a three way tie. Ragsdale drew the first seed, NW drew the second seed, and EF the third seed. Since Ragsdale goes 4A as a #1 seed, NW should have been the #1 seed in 4AA and EF a #2 seed. So, taking that information, how does EF draw a higher seed with a home game over NW. Something is majorly screwed up or the NCHSAA is failing to follow their own rules.

  4. We get to travel to Richmond for 4th year in a row! They should be coming to us because we only lost 1 conference game and they lost 2. We are the #1 seed coming out of our conference because of the draw and East gets a home game and we are on the road! Yeppp!!

  5. AD Hughes at Northwest please explain this situation. How do we end up getting seeded below EF even though we drew second and they drew third in the conference?

  6. That bunch in Richmond County…..I have been there for the past 3 years and there would be nothing better than to beat them on their home ground. They may sit on our side this year and with that all NW fans bring there cow bells for myself i going to have a real cow bell.

  7. NW fans,
You will beat the wheels of off that Richomond Co team, your team has more heart then any team i have seen this year, not to mention you owe them.
Work hard all week and just know that you are going to beat them, best of luck.

    Vegas Mike

  8. NW Fans….look at it like this….you would have to face them at some point….that stadium is like your second home…only you can’t win there and do you really want to face Red Death in the 2nd round?

  9. The only thing that could have happened with the Piedmont 4A cluster is that once Ragsdale dropped down it was a 2-way tie between NWG & East. East owned the head to head tie breaker so the straws went right out the window. Sucks but NW would’ve even been in this situation had they won the conference outright when they had the shot. But hey from what I’ve seen this my be the weakest Richmond Co. team they’ve faced yet! A 2nd round game against Page would be fun!

  10. Richmond should be travelling, they finished second in their conference. Shared or otherwise what is the perk of Conference championships?

  11. I understand the point of view shared by all who have commented so far with regard to the NW Vikings having to travel to Richmond County again. I agree that the Vikings have more heart than anyone I have seen this year. I also have no doubt that the Vikings can go to Richmond County and beat them but that is not the issue here. The issue here is about being fair, across the board, and being consistent year in and year out with regard to the rules and how the seedings are determined. Bottom line in my opinion, NW finished with a conference championship. Richmond County finished second in their conference. Richmond should be travelling to Guilford County for this round of play!!!!!!!

As much as it is not right, I am even willing to look past the notion that when the draw was completed between Ragsdale, NW and East Forsyth and NW drew the 2 seed, that alll of a sudden it was decided that because of the head to head with EF, NW ends up with the second seed. Fairness would look at the fact that because NW beat Ragsdale and Ragsdale beat East Forsyth and East Forsyth beat NW, the draws should have held up, Ragsdale (#1), NW (#2), East Forsyth (#3).

But putting that aside, the bottom line is that NW finished with the Conference Champ title and Richmond County did not, so the Vikings should NOT be travelling for a fourth year in a row to Richmond County. These Viking football players and coaches have earned the right to have the home field advantage in the first round this year (as we were awarded last year in the same position) and if the NCHSAA can not provide a reasonable explanation as to why we are travelling to the field of a team that finished second in their conference, then I see no reason why we should not take this to a higher level to be heard.

  12. Hey guys, playoffs are playoffs. When I coached we had to play 4 consecutive games on the road, of which, 2 of those 4 games were against 2 of the best teams in the state and whipped their tales. As Andy told Barney, “You just never know how these things will turn out for the good”. NW fans, just be Road Warriors and whip everybody’s tail. Leave your mark on every piece of field turf in the east.y our program will be known by everyone. That will earn your program the respect that soME Guilford programs already have..THAT WILL BE THE BIG STORY. So instead of calling names (low-life thugs), just tell your coaches and players to talk on the field.

  13. Street…Last year when we made our annual trek to Richmond, they had so many fans on our side trying to provoke our fans into reacting, We aren’t talking about the kids, we are talking about the fans. They used some extreme profanity around very young kids. No class and the 400 cops at the game should have removed them from the visitors side. Why else would they have that many cops at a game?

  14. I agree with street. Who cares who plays where. Lineup and play ball. If you are championship material it should not matter.

  15. NW Guilford fans —

You guys should want to play Richmond this year. They aren’t nearly as good this year as they have been in the past. Very beatable. Their best player is out for the rest of the season, they exclusively run the ball, and their defense has trouble stopping teams.

Look at the other post I made on the article Andy made about Butlere, as to why you got seeded lower then E Forsyth and why you travel to Richmond.

  16. Mr. Reader – I am so disappointed in reading your comments regarding NW & our “fans”! I can assure you that any negative comment made regarding your son, DID NOT COME FROM AN ADULT VIKINGS FAN!!! Did it occur to you that the way that comment was made last year, more than likely it came from a kid?! Not condoning any hateful commentary from young or old, but if you have been on this site long enough, the one thing you haven’t seen from NW fans is negative, bashing conversation regarding ANY young people, no matter the team!!

In fact, quite the contrary when it comes to DJ! As you certainly remember, in last year’s game, your son made a wonderful gesture towards a special young man on our team when he allowed him to “block” DJ, on the request of DJ’s friend & NW player, Matt Sugg! This was not taken for granted by any NW player, coach or fan in the stadium that night! I was so moved by his “act of kindness” that I contacted Andy the next day & shared this story w/ him! With all the REAL bashing of young people that takes place so often, I found this so refreshing & knew that Andy would want to share this w/ his readers, as he did! Nothing but kind words were spoken about your son the following week, even @ our weekly booster meeting.

Obviously, I do not profess to represent ALL NW fans, but you cannot & will not find player bashing from NW fans like we see from so many other triad area teams. BTW, my son has had a little bit of everything said to him on the field – unfortunately that’s football!

As far as you & your Richmond County allegiance – I do understand Raider football! The coaching staff is excellent, team is filled w/ talent year & year out, but what is extremely disturbing is adults (many intoxicated) sitting all around our student section on the visitors side, taunting & using profanity around our kids! I’ve spent years sitting in high school stadiums on Friday night & have NEVER, EVER seen such immaturity & disrespect!! If you think we are making this up, just ask some of the 50+ sheriff’s deputies lined around the stadium if they have escorted Raider fans out of their own stadium for fighting amongst themselves (and for a few other things)? I am mature enough to understand that the actions of some does not indict everyone, but this kind of activity has taken place the past 4 years we’ve played your beloved Raiders! At what point do school officials deal w/ it! I will give props to several Raider fans who took time to approach my son following last year’s game to compliment him on his performance! So if we refer to “some” of your Raider fans as “thugs”, so be it – THEY ARE!!!

Didn’t mean to take up so much space, but quite frankly, it’s more important to me as a parent to wish EVERY Guilford County team headed to the playoffs, the best of luck as these young men prepare for Friday night! Parents need to remember, no matter how fierce the rivalry, more than likely if your son has played sports long enough in this county, they have friends on the opposing side of the field! Good luck to DJ! I look forward to seeing him play on Saturdays! Jake Simpson is certainly at the top of next year’s QB talent in the area!

NWG Vikings will be ready to take on the Raiders come Friday night! Every year is a new opportunity! Don’t HATE, APPRECIATE!!

*NOTE: We could care less if you forwarded this to the Richmond Journal! Is that suppose to be intimidating?! Come on Man!! 🙂

  17. joe – Not sure what you’re reading, but I don’t believe any NW fan complained about playing Richmond! It’s about the process the NCHSAA uses to determine playoff seeding! You’re the man aren’t you when it comes to this site & carolinapreps.com. Surely you are aware that more often than not, the regular high school football fanatics on these sites agree that the “system” is more than flawed! In fact, some folks have discussed & even proposed realignment suggestions following other states’ guidelines. Since you are the local “guru” on these things & obviously know more than us commoners, can you tell us just where we might find these playoff rules you refer to! It would make sense that they would be on the nchsaa website, but I just can’t seem to find them. I don’t doubt that you own your on personal rulebook, but I am baffled when you speak of NW & Richmond drawing straws! Does this imply that both AD’s got together on Sat. AM to do this? Whatever, it is what it is! The Vikings will strap up & Coach Woody & staff will have our fellas READY TO PLAY! VIKINGS . . .IT’S TIME TO RING THE BELLS!!!

  18. Ladies and gentlemen I am not hear to go back and forth with anyone. My point is fans will be just that “fans.” There is absolutely no need to call anyone “Lowlife Thugs” because u were heckled at a football game. I would have commented on that statement no matter who you were playing. Dj has friends that attend NWG that we have traveled with playing baseball and I can assure you they nor there parents would get on line and call people names. I know for sure they would not hide behind a screen name.
Yes I have been to Raider stadium and sat on the visitors side. I was heckled more than anyone because I wouldn’t bring DJ down there and let him be a raider. When the game was over I got in my car, drove home and forgot about it. As a matter of fact I was heckled this past july by Raider fans when
Grimsley participated in a 7 on 7 with Richmond. I have no loyalty to Richmond as a matter of fact I am not a football fan at all. In my opinion to hide behind a computer and call names is an act of a coward.
No I am not trying to intimidate anyone that is not my nature. I sent this to the Richmond County Daily Journal because I believe that if you have something to say about someone be man/woman enough to say it to them or at least put your real name on this blog (as I do every time I post)

Note*** I have seen both teams play this year and I do believe that NWG can win this game if they control the line of scrimmage

  19. So in other words it’s done by the good ol’ boy system. A bunch of yahoo’s sitting at a stripper bar yucking it up and determining where teams will play!
Money is the reason Richmond was seeded higher! They think they will make more if it’s played in Richmond than at NWG! So, lets just go down there and win! Plain and simple!
