In memory of U.S. soldier/OLB David Hickman(Northeast Guilford HS)

David Hickman went to battle, as an outside linebacker for his Northeast Guilford Rams and he came home as an All-Conference performer……Hickman went to war for the United States and will not be coming home, he died in battle/the line-of-duty on Monday representing our nation, the United States of America…..

Former Northeast Guilford football player and track athlete, David Hickman, was killed this past Monday in Iraq….

The 23 year-old Hickman was killed while in the line of duty to his country and this young man was known for his hard work ethic and his tough-nosed approach to life….

Hickman did not like to do things the easy way, he liked going about his business the hard/dangerous way and easy was probably missing from his vocabulary…..Hickman was a football player for Coach Tommy Pursley’s Rams at NEG and he excelled at the sport….His picture/photo still hangs in the trophy case at the school, out on Hicone Road….He was an member of the All-Conference football team while representing his RAMS….

Hickman also earned a black belt in self-defense at the Greensboro Black Belt Academy…

David Hickman was loved and respected by everyone he came in contact with….His teachers, his coaches, his friends and family….He played football for the Ferrum Panthers at Ferrum, Virginia after his high school career ended and then after a year or so at Ferrum, he entered the military….He was with the 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment…..

Hickman died in Iraq on Monday of this week when an explosive device struck his military convoy….

A special candlelight vigil, in his honor, is planned for this Sunday evening at the Bill Bookout Football Stadium on the Northeast Guilford HS campus, just off of Hicone Road…..All those who knew or came in contact with David, are encouraged to attend….

WFMY NEWS 2 did a feature on David Hickman earlier in the week and it is very touching/complimentary, with Megan Packer talking with close friends that knew David and Coach Tommy Pursley, the Northeast Guilford head football coach, takes time out to talk about what David Hickman meant to Northeast and to the RAM football program….

CLICK HERE to see and hear all and let’s remember David Hickman for how he represented his family and his nation…….

I was watching this video/feature on NEWS 2.0 back on Tuesday night and they had the interview with coach Tommy Pursley and the coach spoke about what David Hickman really meant to the Northeast Guilford football team and to the school and Coach Pursley was struggling to hold back the tears…..

  1. Good guy! It is always sad and tragic to lose a young person.
It is even worse in this case since David was such a genuine and caring individual.
