  1. Pretty good boy Whirlie game tonight huh Andy. I was afraid we were going to give it away at the end. Not sure who #1 is for Northern but he is a small guard that is not afraid to mix it up in the middle with the trees. We had good sucess with feeding it inside to our big guys and we hit some key outside shots to keep them honest.

  2. I think #1 for NG was Patrick Chandler and for Grimsley they did do a good job getting to DJ and company this evening…..Good close ball game at Grimsley….

  3. GDS game was sloppy. Bengals are definitely going to have to play better to beat the better teams. Too many turnovers and missed shops. Played a very uninspired 2nd half. Big guys from Caldwell are def big. Have improved from last year but still have tons of work to do. Thought they wore GDS out on the glass. Bright spot was Hairston tonight. He was as aggressive as I have seen him offensively.

  4. Didnt get to any games tonight, but Caldwell is a tough team to play, didn’t surprise me that they stayed within 50 of the mighty Bengals.

  5. Wesleyan girls vs St. Mary’s
    56-26

    Imani Atkinson-26
    Anna Massey-19
    Jessica Willard-6
    Shelby Lennon-4
    Anna Harris-1

    No boys game

  6. Western Guilford Womens Varsity 63
    Southwest Guilford 50

The Hornet women were led with Brittany Clency’s strong 31 points as they defeated the Cowgirls. Western is 2-0 on the season bring on Northwest Friday!

    Way to go ladies!

  7. No she did not and Western still would have won. Southwest is not the same team they were last year.

  8. Brittany Clency is front runner for conference player of the year! I cannot believe that the News-Records did not have her on their 5 to watch list that they had which consisted of Autumn Carter (Rockingham), Paris Kea (Page), Zena Lovett (SWG), Eboni Goins (Dudley) and Alysaa Munson (NWG) when her career numbers are better and have been proven. I cannot believe the UNCG’s, Elon’s, HPU’s, A&T’s, Campbell, Charlotte, WCU and ECU have not offered during the early signing period. Someone is not doing their homework. Did she play AAU and if so whom did she play with? Someone had to see her during those months.

  9. If I am not mistaken she played for Delaney Rudd and the Lady Phoenix and last I heard she does not have any offers which is very surprising because Brittany is a solid player who has continued to excel over the years. The season has just begun but we will see in the end who everyone is talking about at the conclusion of the season. Not sure if she plays different during AAU but I can’t imagine her not producing there like she does for Western Guilford. Keep it up Brittany and the Lady Hornets! Everyone come out to support these ladies on Friday at Guilford College as they take on NW for the rivalry game at 6pm.

  10. The Western Guilford vs SW Guilford girls game was a pretty interesting one. SW still has loads of talent but if you were watching the game from the stands it was clear to notice alot of chemistry issues. I still believe that they have lots of time to fix those issues before things get out of hand. Not saying that was the reason for the game outcome because Western Guilford looked really good. As for Brittany Clency she did what she does best which is put the basketball in the hoop. At the next level she projects as a point guard not a scorer. So I think that has some bearing on why her recruitment isnt blazing like most would think. Its hard for someone who is a natural shooting guard to convert to being a point guard at the college level. That position isnt something you learn to doover night. There are a few players in this area who are in the same boat as Brittany as far as not having a natural position in college, and whithout elite athleticism it makes it extremely hard to just throw someone who dosen’t settle in to a natural position on the court and expect them to excel defensively on the college level as well. Im sure Brittany will find her way to a free education but i think this is the reason why it hasn’t been as some of us would think.

  11. Sorry @GO HORNETS
Zena Lovette is to Jessica Pone like Jordan Hanner is to Terrell Leach if one is missing it shows. (re:2010-2011 playoffs)They are great players period but they are the wheels. If Zena was playing Western is losing point blank period. Zena has a certain energy that shows when she’s on the court sorry but when they meet again it’s going to be a much different outcome. I’m just saying. Western does have a good team but they as good as SW with Z. Lovette

  12. @Stacy from WG, You are talking about Miranda Jenkins they are some what similar but not so much. Clency is a good scorer that was forced to have the ball in her hand alot in past years due to lack of other experienced ball handlers. With the ball in her hands she was looking to score. She has a scorers mentality thats what she does best. Miranda Jenkins in her senior year had to score to even give her team the oportunity to compete. Earlier on in her career when she had Caprecia Smalls and other capable players Jenkins played some point and distributed the ball as well. Plus Jenkins was a much better athlete in terms of speed quickness and leaping ability and also she excelled defensively and as a rebounder. I dont see Clency rebound as much and she isn’t the best defender. The fact that Clency now has a capable ball handler on her team in the guard #22 (who I think is pretty good) It will allow her to play off the ball much more and we will see scoring outbursts much more this year alot like her sophomore year. As far as the Miranda Jenkins comparison, they are similar in their ability to score but ultimately Jenkins brought more to the table as far as all around game .

  13. Andy, could u please take that ‘wrong’ score that I posted for the Rdale/SEG boys basketball game (65-59) offa here? Sorry. And my apologies to SEG. I think the final was 59 – 57. I got the first score off the Maxprep website. Maybe I read it wrong.
