Big night for hoops as some of the conference games get going this evening and there are a few of those big rivalry/neighborhood games going on tonight too….We will have the radio game from over at Dudley, where the Panthers take on the Smith Golden Eagles tonight…Smith won the Metro 4-A Conference Tournament at Dudley last season and tonight Ben L. Smith will begin their defense of that crown…Pre-game around on AM 950 and www.wpetam950.com is set for around 6:45/7pm and hope to have at least half of the girls game for you too….The girls game could be a sample of the conference title, as both Dudley and Smith are favored to be at the top of the girls standings at the end of the season….Players to watch real close, Greer for Smith and Goins for Dudley….
In the boys game, Smith will be lead by Tracy Gathings and Drew Williams, while Dudley relies heavily on Sam Hunt and D.J. Alston, but I would say the X-factors would be Devan Gregory for Dudley and Cameron Woods for Smith….Watch what they do and it could really effect the outcome of this game……
Full load of game tonight…..(Most set to start at 6pm.)
Smith at Dudley
Western Guilford at Page….WG girls unbeaten and Page girls with only 1 loss on the season and that was without Paris Kea and the Kea-Clency(Brittany-WG) could well be the key to how this game turns out tonight and will be worth the price of admission to see what these two do in a battle for the early top spot in the girls Metro race…..The complimentary players are important, but these two will set the tone for everything that happens in this game this evening….Page has a big edge in the boys game with their speed and quickness, if they decide to use it….
Grimsley at Southeast Guilford Solid matchup for boys, but SEG girls should be on another roll and roll on to (7-0) on the season…Malik Wright leads the SEG boys averaging over 20 points per outing and a good test for the Grimsley defense…
Northwest Guilford at Northern Guilford…NG now has their football players back to go along with Patrick Chandler, Will Mullikin and DC Arendas and that should help and the big key for NWG is the inside play of Keaton Haack…At times, Haack is unstoppable…He plays with a passion and a force that you don’t see everywhere….Matt Pawlowski will have to look more for his shots, excellent set-up man and he scored 3 points in the early minutes the other evening vs. Page, then went quiet the rest of the way…Hunter Clary was on the mark, but need more output from Cody Hylton too for the Vikings…
Ravenscroft at Greensboro Day…They are looking for a big-time battle from the boys and not sure about the girls marks on this one…Boys-wise, Ravenscroft beat Wesleyan earlier in the season and that means the Bengals should have their hands full and I do believe that Ravenscroft knocked off GDS at least once last year….
Westchester at High Point Christian…Not what it used to be when Deuce Bello, Quincy Miller, Josh Level and C.J. Plummer were around…
Ragsdale at High Point Andrews..HPA has started strong and Rasdale a bit slow out of the gate this year….
High Point Central at Southern Guilford
Morehead at Eastern Guilford….EG has one of the best-kept secret players around the area in Brandon Hairston….
Caldwell at Village Christian
Wesleyan at North Raleigh Christian
South Stokes at Bishop McGuinness
