  1. Yes I did a double take on that one. West Stokes actually won the Frank Spencer over Winston-Salem Prep in the main bracket as WS Prep defeated Mt. Tabor and W. Stokes defeated Reagan (who beat Dudley) to advance to the championship. FCD was not even in the main bracket but was in the lower level bracket for some reason.

  2. Is Calvary in the PACIS with HPC and GDS? Saw them play Bishop the other night and Bishop had a 22 point lead late in the game and then Calvary clawed back with some terribly cold 4th quarter Bishop shooting and free throw shooting with Calvary only losing by 6 in the end, but it was a blow out for most of the game. Calvary may have a tough time defending if they are in that conference.

  3. Forsyth Country Day did win the Frank Spencer Classic and it was their first-ever title and the first time a private school had ever won the tournament in any bracket……I knew I had seen that Winston-Salem Journal headline about the first-ever title for FCD and here is the WS Journal account…..They did beat West Forsyth and not WS Prep….

Standing outside his team’s locker room after Wednesday night’s 64-62 overtime victory against West Forsyth in the title game of the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic’s Pepsi-Journal Bracket, coach Jack McHale of Forsyth Country Day was still trying to absorb what had happened.

“My wife and two daughters were waiting for me and had to remind me to smile,” McHale said. “I looked at them and said, ‘Yeah, I guess I can now.’?”

He had plenty to smile about.

Top-seeded FCD won its first Spencer title and became the first private-schools champion in the tournament’s 37-year history.

Sophomore Colton Bishop led FCD with a game-high 20 points, including 15 on 3-pointers.

  4. Andy,
But that is very misleading. There are two brackerts in the Frank Spencer. There is the top tier bracket that has the top ranked Forsyth County 3A and 4A schools and USUALLY Forsyth Country Day. This year, based on seeding, Forsyth Country Day was moved down to the lower bracket and West Stokes was moved up. That may hae been by request of FCD. Who knows? They are down this year. Mt. Tabor and North Forsyth, who is supposed to be the top team in Forsyth County this year, got upset by Winston-Salem Prep and Reagan got upset by West Stokes. If you read ALL of the articles in the Winston-Salem Journal going back to right before the tournament started, you will very clearly be able to see that FCD played in the lower bracket this particular year. They won that lower level bracket over West Forsyth who was also played down due to being way down this year.

  5. You are exactly right….A lot of headlines to follow and plenty of details….I knew I had seen that headline that read ‘First-Ever Title for FCD” and I’m thinking they did it without Tyler Lewis??? But details are details and we have seen many and this is still fun, because we see one thing and then we have questions and we have to get to the bottom of it and clear it up and that makes for a fun journey/Journal……

Thanks for reading and for joining us on the Journey….Things might still be a bit unclear, but it all leads up to that big game with HPCA at FCD on Tuesday night and ‘get ready’…..
