D.J. Reader(Grimsley HS) has a tough decision to make too

D.J. Reader(big lineman and P/1b) from Grimsley High School has that same tough decision to make that James Summers(Page HS) has made…..The National Signing Day is this coming Wednesday, February 1 and yesterday(Thursday January 26) James verbally committed to the University of North Carolina, after earlier declaring he was headed to N.C. State….D.J. Reader has pretty much narrowed his choices down to Maryland and Clemson and he plans to sign on the dotted line with one of those two schools next Wednesday….D.J.’s situation is little different than that of James, since D.J. is looking to play both footall and baseball in college and he will sign with those intentions being a main clause in his decision….He will play both baseball and football on the collegiate level…..

Word has it that Clemson’s football staff was over at Grimsley yesterday(Thursday) and that Coach Dabo Sweeney and his Tigers are coming on strong here at the end…..That is some pretty impressive company, with the Tiger football staff coming to see you, just one week before the big signing day…..Maryland has been involved with this process since back early in the negotiations, so we will just have to wait and see how all of this works out….

Good luck to D.J. with his decision and let’s hope he can have some fun with the remainder of the basketball season, before he puts on his baseball cleats and heads out to the diamond for the spring season……

  1. Who knows, maybe Larry Fedora and Mike Fox will show up at the Grimsley-Page basketball game tonight…..

  2. He’s a fine young man, and it’s admirable that he plays 4 major sports in high school; but he is not an ACC level baseball player. UNCG maybe but if he is on the team ay an ACC school, it(s only so they could get his name on a football LOI. Have you seen Jack Leggett @ Grimsley?

  3. TO THOSE WHO DON`T KNOW WHAT INSIDE A PERSON HEART AND THE WILL THAT THEY MAY HAVE TO WORK HARD FOR WHAT THEY WANT. PLEASE DON`T MAKE COMMENTS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. IT MUST BE TRUE DJ HAS THE TALENT TO PLAY BASEBALL IN THE ACC IF THESE SCHOOL WANT HIM TO PLAY BOTH SPORTS. ALSO YOU DON`T KNOW IF THERE WERE OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE ACC THAT JUST WANTED HIM TO PLAY BASEBALL!. I HAVE BEEN AROUND DJ FOR YEARS AND HE CAN PLAY WITH ANYBODY.DJ YOU HAVE WORKED HARD FOR THIS CHANCE,SO CONTINUE TO WORK HARD IN THE CLASSROOM AND AT YOUR CRAFTS. BASEBALL AND FOOTBALL . GOOD LUCK AT WHICH EVER SCHOOL YOU CHOSE. REMEMBER YOU HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE TO ANYBODY. YOU ONLY HAVE GOD TO THANK FOR THIS CHANCE TO MOVE FORWARD IN YOUR LIFE.

  4. Read the whole post, and get yourself a dose of realism. I know exactly what I am talking about. This blog needs a dose if realism every once in a while, and turn your damn caps off. No one is telling people not to dream here, just saying ” a fact is a fact”. Have a great weekend!! Tell DJ to tell Dabo and Jack hello.

  5. DJ can hit a baseball with anyone. He can at least DH at many schools. Not sure where he plays in the field, but then I don’t coach. But not many people hit it as well as DJ. If I’m a coach I find a way to get that bat in the game. Also concerned with endurance. I felt his HS football coach used him in the wrong positions. Everyone knew you could run at him beginning in the 2nd qtr. because he was tired. He’s dominant at DT when he is fresh. DOMINANT. I would have loved to seen him focus on DT in football.

What worries me is how you play football as a lineman without playing spring ball. I know Russell Wilson did it but he’s not RW. Some skill guys run track in the spring but linemen really need the off season for training and then spring ball. Maybe he can pull it off. A few out there have done it. Continue to wish him well. Fine young man and friend.

  6. You know you are correct, I don’t know that coaches in the ACC are not pursuing him to play baseball, but I’be been around and seen enough. ACC baseball to know that the football coach asked him to make contact. If you don’t think this happens, then just ask around. Next time you see Jack or Mike, tell them that Eddie from Asheboro said hello, and see what they say.
I just love all of you “Dr. Feelgood’s” up there in Guilford county. I think Reader will be a great addition to any D1 football program he signs with, and I agree he will play at a different position than in HS, but a HS coach plays him where he will benefit the team, not necessarily where be should play or will play at the next level.
    Eddie

  7. DJ Reader is a big young man with a big heart and a strong will and drive. We have enjoyed covering his games and following his high school career over the last four years….Don’t know where he will end up, but with his personality, he is going to succeed no matter where he decides to play ball and attend school at the next level and I wish for him the chance to play beyond college too. Football has been good to DJ, but he loves his baseball and we wish him the best in both…..

He could be a very good teacher/educator/coach one day, just have that feeling about him….He seems like he may want to give back one day when his playing career is over and he would be good in that field….
