  1. You Page people always have the same excuse after each loss: REFS REFS REFS…the REFS blew it…go
cry yourself a river…GET OVER IT….take your crying towels down to Chapel Hill..they use the same excuse!!!

  2. Better call in the SRO cause Page got robbed on that one Block/Charge call…..That one call had a major impact on the overall outcome of tonight’s game…..

  3. It’s not just Page fans who think that call was horrible.

Langston Wertz of the Charlotte Observer and guys like Andy and the Referee sitting behind me thought it was a Charge, as well.

  4. It really didn’t matter who won that game, because tonight would have been either team last win of the season. Page nor Davie County can beat West Charlotte nor Olympic anyways. And before you ask, no I’m not from Charlotte, I’m from Greensboro. I just call a spade a spade. I watch a lot of high school basketball and I could have told you back in October that West Charlotte and Olympic are the two best teams in the state. There will be no anwser for Kennedy Meeks on Saturday.

  5. To “Don’t Matter”.. those were the exact type of comments made about the Page football team before they hit Mallard Creek, Butler and Garner in the mouth during the football championships before winning the States. So don’t assume anything. The game should be left to the players and coaches not the zebra’s.

  6. @Really Quote of the day”The game should be left to the players and coaches not the zebra’s.” Classic you adults are soooooooooooo funny

  7. To ” Really”.. basketball is a little bit different from football. In football the game is based on speed and power a little more than it is in basketball because of how the game is played. I don’t care how you put it, or try to say everyone counted Page out, at the end of the day Page was the better team when they played against those two Charlotte schools just like West Charlotte and Olympic this yeat were head and shoulders above everyone else they played this year in the playoffs. There is no anwser for the inside play of West Charlotte. The Meeks kid is a tough kid to handle as well as the other kid that is 6’7 that plays along with him. Believe it or not, having someone on defense that is 6’9 or taller sitting in the middle of your defense makes everyone else job so much easier. Look how well Syracuse,Kentucky and Carolina are on defense all because they have that presence in the middle.

  8. @ Really… I feel you about the whole let the kids play the game and all that good moral stuff, but….. You must not have gotten to the Coliseum early enough last night to watch that West Charlotte vs Olympic game. @ Don’t matter is right. There is absolutely nothing that Page was gonna be able to do against either one of them. I will say this though page has enough young talent to gety back to this point. Maybe not next year but in about 2 years they are gonna be really good again.

  9. I thought Page made a major mistake by going into a stall with only a one point lead and a lot of time on the clock. I believe if they had stayed agressive and attacked the basket more things would have happen for them. The call was not a good call at the end, but in defense of the refs, Page got away with a lot of things during that time as well. A flop was called and a couple of travels were overlooked. Sure there may have been refs there whom would say it was a charge, but those are also the same refs that have made similar calls all year. Pretty good game that kept the crowd from falling asleep.

  10. The last charge-block call was so miserable. Most charge blocks are extremely close as far as the distance between the two players for starters and the time before contact. On the one in question, there was at least two feet of separation between the two players. Next Carter was set so early it seemed like time stopped. Of all of the charge-block calls made during the game that one was the MOST obvious. Even with that, had Fonville’s driving layup, which hung for a second on the rim before falling off, gone in Page could have still won the game. Now for the ridiculous Tech that was called late; the officials hear stuff all game and ignore it. The game was cleanly and aggressively played, with no confrontations, no obvious chatter and both teams were respectful of each other. To put the “rabbit ears” up and call that T at that stage of the game was so wrong. It detracted more from the outcome and put the officials under the scope even more. The call meant nothing to the winner-loser of the game. As far as Page having NO chance against W. Charlotte, anyone that has ever played the game knows that is absurd. We can name outcomes of all sports where the winner had NO CHANCE.They are too numerous to list. That is one fo the many baeuties of sport.

Page has ZERO to apologize for. The kids layed it all ont the line.

  11. I am sure the Butler girls last year had already purchased their baskeball banners before the playoffs started last year but unfortunately for them the game is not played on paper. That banner is flying over the Southwest girls floor. I am sure either Inpendence, Butler or Mallard Creek were making plans for a victory parade down Tryon St just before the playoffs began in football but unfortunately for them the game is not played on paper. That banner is flying over the Page boys floor. My best advise is “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch”. This page team was good enough to win against anybody and I am still pulling for the remaining triad teams. We have been fortunate in this area to continue to have teams winning each season whether it is soccer, football, basketball, baseball, or what at the state level. Let’s keep the winning going for the triad !

  12. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Page has grossly overachieved this season. They have played some great basketball this season with a pretty good team and some pretty good coaching. Theyre patient and disciplined, hardworking and motivated but as much as we all hate to admit it…sometimes hardwork from good players/coaches isnt enough. This was the case of a hardworking team with decent talent versus a pretty lethargic team with tremendous talent. Lets all remember that Davie Co. took a huge lead in the beginning of the game doing nothing special other than being more talented than Page. They only relenquished the lead after poor substitutions by the coach and lack of effort by the Davie Players. For much of the game they were out-rebounded, out hustled, and out coached…you cant tell me of a time when any of the Davie Kids tried to take a charge, or dove for a looseball, or boxed out on defense…because they didnt. They played the game so effortlessly that it was almost surreal. They never got rattled and never pushed the issue. When they needed a basket they just gave it to one of thier studs and the went and scored a relatively easy basket (or at least it seemed like it was easy for them to score when they wanted to). The Davie guard had 30 of the quietest points that i’ve ever seen and he did it without even getting tired, barely playing hard enough to break a sweat. The Page team had a commendable season and they will be a good team in the years to come but let imagine if Davie Co. had even tried hard this game..it would have been a blowout. Im just being realistic and i hope this doesnt ruffle too many feathers…just calling it like i see it. Just remember this — Hardwork only beats talent when talent doesnt work hard….and in Davie County’s case they worked hard when it mattered. The game against West Charlotte is going to be another story.

  13. Pantherette,

Tru that! The team Page played was also much younger and they were more polish. Heck we beat Page and I know we would not have beated Davie County this year. Just keeping it real!

  14. @ KIR. I do agree with you that the charge was debatable and the tech wasn’t appropriate given the emotions of a state play off game. It was a marginal at best officated game To say that they should be fired is ridiculous. When you mess up in your job are people booing you like they do refs. When you don’t close a sales pitch are they anonymously posting on a message board to fire you. When you don’t execute to your best every time you are at the office are people calling for you to not be in that role? The answer is NO.

The better question is how can the system be tweaked to have the best officials calling play off games. How many times should a crew work together before being allowed to call a playoff game? A team plays and practices all season together. Shouldn’t refs do the same?

Post some constructive feedback about how to better the situation oppose to complaining.

  15. Davie has no bench so they can’t play too aggressive and get in foul trouble. Very athletic and very good ball players. Page gave them all they could handle with undersize talent but they play well as a team and have enough scorers to beat most teams.

that was the most obvious charge call and if the refs can’t make that call, they have no business being on the court. sorry. no sympathy from me.

i would respect them more if they manned up and said they blew it!

  16. The question that should be stated and seems like no one wants to do that is this:

Why was Page trying to stall the ball a whole quarter with a one point lead?

  17. Bobby Knight always said the everyone sees but very few people look. In reference to the Page game that means that everyoe saw the game but few people looked and understood what was going on. Page wasn’t stalling the whole quarter they simply spread the floor and moved the ball while looking for an easy shot. Davie either couldn’t or wouldn’t defend them hard enough to get the ball so they ran time off the clock and waited for an easy shot. Summers got a lay up when his man made a mistake. Why take a 40 to 50% shot when you can be patient and take a 70 to 80% shot. Defense is hard to play for long periods of time and if you are patient you will catch a defender looking the wrong way and get an easy shot on him. Davie was scoring easily either with the guard hitting jump shots or the bigs kids getting put backs. Sometimes the best defense is to not let the other team have the ball to score. Page’s players on the court were all good free throw shooters. A missed shot is the same thing as a turnover when the other team is more dominant on the boards. When they can’t take the ball from you why risk giving it to them by shooting anything harder than a lay up or short jumper?

  18. I’m waiting for the video of the Block/Charge call to surface and that play/call was big, Real Big….Maybe WFMY NEWS 2 Sports will have it tonight….We haven’t had that feeling/passion here since 1969 and that’s back when ‘The Monkees’ were still big….If anyone has that video(from the basketball game and not ‘The Monkees) send it our way…..

  19. @ pantherette…what was the huge lead????? Ten….and it was erased in no time! If you think that Davie county had tremendous talent then you you don’t know talent! They went 6-4 in a weak conference! I will give credit were credit is due #32 was nice and he is an athlete. However if a couple of page football players been allowed to join the team late (after they won a 4AA championship) this team would have been loaded with ture talent! The score might have been like the football score against Davie county-41-7! Which might I had three of the starting 5 for davie county played on that football team including #32 which was the WR # 3. So my point is all page was lacking was a big man, davie county was not more talented than page! You take #32 off that team and they may 4-6 instead of 6-4.

  20. The video represents what I saw live-A BLOWN CALL that likely cost Page a shot at The Regional Finals. One of the worst, most blatant missed calls in a “big game” at the high school level I have seen in many years of playing and observing basketball.
