College Men’s Tennis Final – Washington (Md.) 7, Guilford 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Vishnu Rajes and Marc Cywinski both won twice in visiting Washington (Md.) College’s 7-2 tennis victory at Guilford College Tuesday.

The Shoremen (2-0) are ranked 13th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III South Atlantic Poll.

Washington captured five of six singles contests and two of the three doubles matches. Rajes won in straight sets at second singles and teamed with Cywinski at second doubles for an 8-3 triumph over Quakers’ rookies Colin Rapp and Turner Votipka. Cywinski scored a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Guilford’s Rapp at fourth singles.

Tyler Mercier won both of his matches for Guilford. He downed Kevin Papen, 6-2, 6-1, at first singles and teamed with Clayton Hamilton for an 8-6 triumph over Papen and Aaron Ellison at first doubles.

Guilford hosts Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-rival Roanoke College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
