+++++Teams that have been HOT as of late include obviously Northwest Guilford girls(25-0), Dudley girls(14-1) since December 29, Northern Guilford girls(had a great run in the Mid-State 3-A Conference Tournament), Northwest Guilford boys(having beaten SWG in their two most recent meetings), Southern Guilford boys(won three straight big games to take MPC Conference Title)…Smith boys(swept Metro Tourney and beat Grimsley twice in a week/OT and a three-point game with Grimsley), High Point Andrews girls have been HOT over the past couple of season and have won what I think is now 34 consecutive PAC 6 2-A Conference games….I think we are on the money with the HOT teams we have listed….+++++

On the girls side…
NWG won’t have any trouble with Tabor. Dudley, SEG, and Page will have a lot of trouble with their opponents.
I think NG will take care of Fike. Although Topsail is one of the weaker #1’s, I’m not sure EG beats them. EG has been on a bad skid for a while. I don’t have much confidence in them.
I think NEG has a chance to beat Eastern Wayne. Nichelle Jefferies has a chance to have a monster game in this one. The EW guards aren’t too great. However, NEG’s going to have a tackle a big problem in 6-3 Naheria Hamilton. Hamilton’s one of the best shot blockers in the state. Tori Briscoe definitely has her work cut out for her.
THe ACR-S Guilford game will be a toss-up. Now, that Rockingham County has their Ronda Rousey lookalike back, I think they’ll make a pretty deep run. They should’nt have trouble beating Morehead. They also have a little added motivation in the fact that Morehead upset them the last time around.
I don’t think Andrews will have any trouble with Midway. The SW Guilford-Glenn game will be very good. SW has an advantage in the backcourt but Glenn has an edge up front. Can’t call this one.
The Bishop-Gray Stone game will be a tough test for both teams. Gray Stone has been on a tear the last month and a half. They also have four girls over 6-0. However, Bishop always brings it on the defensive end and has one of the most successful coaches in the game.
On the boys side…
Hate to say it but Catholic shouldn’t have too much trouble with Page. Overton can’t do it all by himself.
I think SWG will beat Myers Park. Also think NW Guilford will beat Vance….but also think Vance will give them quite a bit of trouble.
Dudley shouldn’t have much trouble with Glenn (as long as the Dudley that played Mount Tabor doesn’t show up). I’m rooting for Ragsdale but don’t know if they’re strong enough to upset Hoke. I also think Berry defeats Grimsley.
By far, the most interesting (and potentially exciting) matchup in this slate is Smith and Richmond County. If you feel like making the trip to Richmond, you’re going to see non-stop action. Richmond’s style of play is basically early 90’s era Loyola Marymount. No defense, just gonna try to outscore you. Pratt could honestly go for 50 tomorrow. Jaylen Gainey could be a big factor in this one.
I think Eastern Guilford will beat West Craven. I don’t think Northern Guilford is a good matchup for Southern Guilford. SG will really have to be hot from the perimeter to win this one. Western Guilford can sneak up on and beat North Iredell. Question is….which Hornet squad will show up? The one that went toe-to-toe with NWG…..or the one that lost to Ledford a few days ago?
I think East Burke will beat TWA. Red Raiders haven’t looked all that strong lately. Mt. Airy should take care of Bishop (too much Clay Mounce).
News and record has good little article stating teams that are contenders, also a good evaluation of what teams need to improve on to possibly win states. According to them NWG girls need to shoot the 3 better AND cut down on turn overs. NWG boys and SWG boys are lacking size. Pretty solid evaluation of both teams it seems. NWG girls had way to many turn overs from the PGs vs Glenn and their team 3 point shooting is way down this year, maybe one guard is shooting solid from the arc, not sure? I know in last years state run the guards we not able to finish at the rim because of the other teams athleticism and length and blocking shots so the 3 point shot is crucial. NWG boys and SWG boys will definitely be tested by teams like North Meck who has a solid inside presence along with solid long athletic giards. Should make for interesting talk over the next 2 weeks. Thoughts??
