Elon’s Humphreys and Tomic Earn CAA Weekly Men’s Tennis Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – The doubles duo of Chris Humphreys and Petar Tomic earned the Elon University men’s tennis team’s first weekly honor of the season March 2, as the two were named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Doubles Team of the Week.

Humphreys and Tomic are riding a two-match winning streak with the team on a four-match winning streak of its own. The Phoenix finished the week going 2-0 in narrow 4-3 wins over good teams in Brown and VCU.

Competing at No. 3 doubles, the Phoenix tandem edged Brown’s Jack Haworth and Charles Tan, 7-6 (8-6). They moved up to No. 2 doubles against VCU and posted a 6-3 triumph against Philip Mobius and Arvid Noren. Humphreys and Tomic are now 2-2 on the season.

For both Humphreys and Tomic, it is their first-career conference weekly honors.

After today’s match at North Carolina A&T, the Phoenix returns to the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center for a big match against No. 28-ranked Old Dominion on Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
