  1. Grimsley’s Xavier Harrison was out most of the year with an injury. He has one of the smoothest swings in the game right now. Great to see him back out there.

  2. If Ragsdale JV rides the bus to Western with the varsity, a lot of Diesel is saved. Don’t make it easier for the powers that be, to cut high school sports.

  3. D.J. Artis stats at Liberty University for 2016:
    .278 AVG./9 Games-9 Starts/36 AB’s/6 Runs/10 Hits/
    1 Double/2 Triples/1 HR/7 RBI

  4. The umpires working the JV game at Ragsdale tonight were an embarrassment to the game. They should have given back their paychecks and go back to umping T ball games.

  5. I totally agree with For Real. In all my years involved in baseball I never see a crew be that Clueless about basic rules. That last inning was a travesty which Ragsdale got screwed on all counts. In top half with runners on 1st and 2nd with no out a infield fly was called. Ball was dropped and the SS ran over to 3rd has our runner broke form 2nd. The SS attempted to tag the base runner and the runner pretty much push/ slapped ball out of the hand of the fielder. No call and umpires both looking at each other and the runner went all the way and scored,
Then in the bottom half, the Tigers had guys 2nd & 3rd and the batter was hit with a Curveball in the Shoulder. Umpire called the batter out as he made no attempt to get out of the way?? That honestly was the Worst call I’ve ever seen! I do not know the Ragsdale Coach didn’t loose it…

  6. if the umpire judged that the batter leaned into the pitch, and without that interference the pitched would have been called a strike, and that would have been strike 3, then the umpire made the correct call. you can’t call the batter “out” for simply not making an effort to get out of the way, you simply add a “ball” or “strike” to the count depending on where the pitch was located. as for the issue with the runner “slapping” the ball out of the shortstop’s glove, if the runner intentionally did that he should have been called out. but it’s still a judgement call and we all know half of the fans are going to disagree with any judgement call. all in all most umpires do a good if not great job.

  7. BBall Coach or Umpire,

I was at this game watching my nephew. I agree that must umpires hustle and use proper mechanics/positioning, but last night was a joke. Sitting directly behind the plate, the hit batter was horrendous. The curve ball was at least 6-7 inches inside the plate and hit the batter on top of shoulder.
I’m a retired SAL umpire and it irritates me when or if guys are there for just the check. It was a terrible inning for that crew.

  8. @TriadSports I agree there are those out there who don’t need to be out there and yes they are there for nothing but the check. but what I was alluding to is many parents sit in the stands and bash umpires when they actually are getting the calls correct. the high school baseball rulebook differs from little league or NCAA or MLB rules and most parents only know the rules they hear announcers talk about on TV. and most announcers / commentators don’t know the rules either. I am sure you have experienced your share of that…Peace!
